Incredible. Absolutely incredible. Everyone is great in this. Fei, Elly, Citan, Miang, Bart, Margie...They're all so incredible. I look forward to more, if it ever comes. Until then I'll keep rereading this over and over again because it's perfect.
I hope you finish someday and put it in book form using Cafe Press or something. I'll buy a copy, definately.

I've just read the news on the front page. First of all, you don't need to apologize, Dark. We all now how it goes... life that is. But I really want to thank you for even considering to continue writing this novelization, because it really shows you still care about your fans. I'm very glad to even hear from you again, because I honestly thought this wonderful project was dead. I know I'll be reading the next chapter once you finish... and the one after that. And so forth. Keep it up!

Dark, I must congradulate you. This is my absolute favorite video game, and I pretty much know it inside and out. You have not only recreated the scenarios wonderfully and in a detailed manner, but you have filled in a few gaps that such a low-budget video game had a hard time expressing. The emotions, feelings, and trains of thought are all present. It's excellent. Somehow, you were able to make Citan (or should I say Hyuga) seem even more mysterious. Bart has much more of a chance to be his squirrelly self, as well. I can't wait to see what will be written about Fei when he finally matures out of his depression.
I suppose there are only two things really to which I must inquire. Both quite trivial, but it would settle better with me. First, there really was no mention of Alice's late-blooming love for Fei. In the game, that was made fairly obvious by her statment in her home, "If only you had been born here in Lahan... And if only we had known each other earlier on..." I just really felt that this young love meant something to both Alice and Fei. Second, I may be mistaken, but I believe that Margie's full name is Marguerite. I'm pretty sure it's the French form of Margaret.
Thank you very much for doing Xenogears justice. If you hadn't done it, I would've. However, I'm glad that you took the innitiative. Kudos to your technical editors and supervisors as well.
Sincerely,
Id's Valkyrie, Lady Rae

You must finish this novelization... no matter what it takes. This is the first time someone has actually written a novel after a game I love, so I'm asking you, whoever you are, to do whatever is in your power to complete this project. I have complete faith in the individual willing to honor one of the great masterpieces of our time.

Honestly, I've been reading this on and off for a while now, this is the best thing i've read in a long time. I'm completely wrapped up in the story even though i've played the game countless times, I wish you the best of luck in completing this, I know how hard it is to find time.

God & Mind review

(Note: I've never played Xenogears, this review is based soly on the story and the author's writing style.)

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first read the novelization. I know the game's story is very good, but I've read some fan-fiction and have an idea what a good story can turn into at the hands of a bad author. But as I was reading it, I became hooked. I couldn't put it down. It was--in short--a very gripping narrative. The characters were interesting, the places were well thought out, the history was very intricate. But this was all despite the author. It's not written very well. He does do the job, but I found myself wishing he would stop telling us how good the characters looked and really get on with it. The author spends a lot of time describing things, but you still don't have the clearest picture of how things look. I had to imagine quite a bit and if I hadn't seen pictures of the characters, I wouldn't have any idea what they looked like. For instance Fei, a muscular boy with long brown hair. Is he a younger version of 'The Rock' or what? He (the author) uses big words like 'super-ego', which is great that he has such a good vocabulary, but most people don't know that it means 'conscience' and don't want to have to look it up in a dictionary. Also, some characters are over described, like Citan for instance; We get he's a very wise person and a father figure to Fei, but we don't need to hear it every time he talks. The author also mentions time and again that a character is good-looking, but the average reader is there to read a book, not look at a picture. All this building-up of characters comes off more as a vicarious attempt on the author's part to actually become one of the characters.

On the plus side, the fight scenes are well done and put me in mind of Frank Herbert's Dune. Speaking of which, he would have been a perfect choice for the novelization of this book. Read 'The Jesus Incident' if you don't believe me. This still is worth a read even though it's unfinished and some things will probably get on your nerve.

Incredible work so far, Dark. Those of us who are craving more xenogears, your work gives us something to be absorbed in. It takes a true loyalist to create something like this, while still keeping things accurate and not destroying the personality that is the game. and your interpretation i find very nice indeed.
I once tried creating my own story based off of xenogears, but I when I reread over my story after finishing it, it sounded excactly like the game presented it. not pretty at all. ,,^o_o^,, The story only covered the introduction and Lahan anyway...

By the way, In "a butlers mission" you spelled guidance like "gdence" I don't think it was intentional so I point it out to you.
Best of luck in your endeavors and keep this project alive please.
I would in fact purchase it if you ever managed to get it published.
Peace

A wonderful read up till now. Hope you find the time to finish this some day, it would be a testament to the wonderful game that Xenogears is. I've recently played it, and thought it told the best story to ever grace a videogame, so it definitely deserves to be turned into a 'real' story.

I am wondering how you'll handle some of disc 2 though. Not only does it get incredibly complex in some parts, since it's told in the way it is told (trying to avoid possible spoilers), 70% of the story there will have to come from your own (obviously quite rich) imagination. Not trying to discourage you, though, that would be the last thing I'd want to do. Keep up the good work!

I've played thr game almost relgiously i know it from top to bottom, and this novel just hits where it counts......KEEP IT UP CANT WAIT FOR THE END TO COME NEAR.

Uh...hehe...urrr...hrm...yeah...Well I only glanced at "A Butler's Mission", but from what I've read, you're starting to sound a little like Jim Theis. And that is not a good thing. In other words, you're using way too many adjectives per sentence, some that are misused or misplaced. It's good to be descriptive and have a varied word choice, but make sure everything makes sense and don't describe every detail as you go on. For example, the sentence with "slimly muscled"...it's just easier to read if you just explain Bart's appearance in a paragraph, then the rest of the writing will be more concise. Otherwise, you're doing a good job with the dialogue, thanks for the effort!

For those who don't know who Jim Theis is, simply type in "The Eye of Argon" in a web search engine and prepare yourself for the worst...

That's what I was thinking. However, the statement isn't Dark's, to begin with (it's from the game), and it's an introductory clause. It's like a title. It's like saying, "John, the guy in the blue."

I may be wrong but I think that by saying "the first sentence of the prologue" he meant :

"The continent of Ignas, in the northern hemisphere of our world"

Sorry to do this again, but the review saying the first paragraph is "Metaphysically flamboyant," do you even know what “metaphysically” or “metaphysical” means? Because according to the actual definition, your argument makes no sense. Also to note, anyone who says “the storm raged” isn’t a sentence, doesn’t know English. Anyone who posts ought to have at least a basic understanding of the language. Go Dark.

I have to wait... grrrr, ...need thing to be done written... now! a guy can only go through so much torture. hey I've an idea, why don't you not post as you write! then post when it's finished! yea, .... YEA! um no wait. crap. then I'd get my chance to read it in about 10 years. ..don't want that... ok. alright. I'll play your little game. giving an addict his drug at slow random intervals isn't fun for the addict ya know.

Ok, while I admit my respect for your ambitious "novelization" of Xenogears, I have to say its not very well written. The first three sentences of your prologue are so metaphically flamboyant that its practically unreadable. Attaching similies and metaphors to every which sentence does not make better writing, its just obnoxious. Nice attempt, but less pompacity next time fellas.

Major props to Dark....
All hail you, my friend...
I feel like im reading a mixture of the best aspects of Battletech, Starwars, Lord of the Rings, Romeo and Juliet, and something else thats slipping out of mind right now. Anyways, I think i'd be doing a major injustice to you if i even compared this novelization to anything else. It's beyond compare. For a long time I have treasured Xenogears... and mostly for storyline reasons... its simply the best story i've ever known, personally. Lord of the rings is up there.... but Xenogears takes a special place in my heart. This novelization brings the story to life in a whole new dimension for me. Keep up the good work... your the only one who can do this right. If you don't finish this... people might come hunting you down. ....I, might come hunting you down. ...oh uh, didn't mean for that to sound threatening.
But really, I can't express how much I apreciate your efforts. There are a lot of people out there who would never be able to endure a video game for the sake of a good storyline, much less and 80 hour video game of considerable difficulty. This novelized form will help bring this great story to the masses. I've already shared it with nearly a dozen friends. We're all patiently waiting for the completion of this epic.
Keep this up, and i think you'll find that sooner or later, it will be published and widely respected.
By the way, do you think you could give any hint at when the upcoming chapters might be available. I understand if your schedule leaves this up in the air, but it would be nice to know if at all possible.

First off I have to say that I am a big fan of Xenogears. The characters, the gameplay and everything else about it is top notch. But what really got me hooked is the epic story. Never have I experience anything like this. And to know that someone actually is writing this in a novel form, It's pure bliss! I have read your novelization and so far it's very accurate to the game. Your writing skills are superb. Please keep this up as I am a follower of yours now. This novelization has a potential to become an epic comparable to The Lord of the Rings. Good luck!

Dark, you are doing an amazing job. I always thought that Xenogears would make a great epic novel, and a while back I actually tried to do it. I wrote about one paragraph before I decided I just wasn't capable. Reading this has been great so far, and I think that if there is one person to write this, its you. I hope you can finish it. Good luck!

I think your novel works out great. and it is easily one of the most well written sci-fi novel I've ever read. I like the way you describe the gears and the way they fight.
I really think a version of your novelization should really be published. It would really stand out against all other "lord-of-the-rings-theme" novels.
