Chapter 12: Margie's Rescue

[Begin music: "Invasion"]

[Scene opens on East Tower hallway. Bart and Margie walk towards the exit elevator that was shown when Shakahn, Ramsus and Miang had a conversation earlier. However, when they get to the center of the hallway, Ramsus and Miang walk in unexpectedly.]

MARGIE
"Bart! Look!"

[Camera pan around to show the two duos squared off at each other.]

BART
"Crap! Gebler!"

RAMSUS
"Looks like we have rats. Where do you plan on taking that girl, boy?"

BART
"Boy? Hah, boy!?!
Let's see you try and call me that again! Who the hell are you anyway?"

RAMSUS
"You do have spunk. But I don't need to give my name to rats like you."

BART
"What?"

RAMSUS
"Now hand over the girl. She is a very important guest.
Until she tells us where a certain piece of the Fatima Jasper is, we can't allow her to be taken away."

BART
"Gimme a break! You think I'm gonna hand her over just 'cause you say to?
Pull your head out, you Gebler geek!"

RAMSUS
"Hmm. I assume you know where such abusive language will lead you."

[Ramsus pulls his sword out.]

[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]

[---- Battle mode----]

[Bart and Margie are squared off against Ramsus and Miang.]

MIANG
"If you truly want to protect that child, then surrender...
Prince Bartholomew!"

BART
"Oh yeah? You know about me, huh?
Heh! It's not such a bad feeling having your name known by someone as beautiful as you."

MARGIE
"Ba-arty!"

MIANG
"You may have had your problems with Shakhan,
but we won't treat you badly.
Concerning Shakhan, it really doesn't matter 'either way' to us."

[Bart yells "Jerk!"]

BART
"That's nice to know. But I can't accept it.
See, for me, 'either way' is bad."

RAMSUS
"... Then it's decided."

[Ramsus pulls his sword back, preparing to fight.]

BART
"Tch... Margie! Hide back behind there!"

MARGIE
"No! I'll fight too!"

BART
"I don't care, just hide!"

[Battle: Bart (Margie) vs. Ramsus (Miang)]

[Ramsus kneels.]

FEI
"Bart!!"

[Camera closes in on Fei as he drops in from above behind Ramsus. He makes a vertical leap to the front of Ramsus and hits him with a tackle technique. Ramsus is knocked backwards. Scene fade.]

[----End battle mode----]

[Scene opens on the same situation the battle started in, but Fei has joined Bart and Margie.]

FEI
"You okay, Bart?"

[Bart turns to Fei.]

BART
"Glad you're here Fei!"

RAMSUS
"Fei?"

FEI
"What's wrong, Bart? I thought this was just a simple rescue."

BART
"Shut up! This jerk butted in and slowed me down!"

RAMSUS
(The way he attacked... It reminds me of someone from my past...)

[Stop music.]

[A minor metallic roar is heard. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on two infantry Gears, surrounding a fiery red-haired man. Camera pan behind the man as he attacks one of the Gears with a projectile, knocking it down easily. Camera pans 180 as the man attacks the other Gear with a flurry of kicks and then ends with a combo move very much like the one Fei just used on Ramsus. Camera pan back and up quick to reveal a third Gear as the man jumps in front of it and knocks it over with a strong headbutt. Scene fade to white.]

[Scene fade in on the hallway standoff again.]

RAMSUS
"Enough talk! Battling will reveal the truth about you."

[Ramsus advances a step.]

[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]

BART
"Careful Fei! This Gebler jerk's pretty strong."

[----Battle mode----]

[Battle: Bart/Fei (Margie) vs. Ramsus (Miang)]

[Ramsus falls to his knees.]

RAMSUS
(He looks... completely different... and there's no response.)
(Is it just my imagination? But that technique was indeed his...)
(What's more... the name Fei.... where have I...)

[Screen fade to white as Ramsus remembers a phrase.]

VOICE
Fei... That is my child's name...

[Scene unfade.]

RAMSUS
"!!"

[Camera pan in close to Ramsus. But of note, is that the man in red from the cut sequence is flashing in and out in place of Fei. It stops after a split second, and Fei uses the same combo move to knock Ramsus flat. Camera pan back to battle shot.]

RAMSUS
"Gah!"

MARGIE
"Leave the rest to me!"

BART
"Margie?"

[Ramsus gets back in his defensive stance. Margie fires a smoke bomb over the group.]

RAMSUS
"Rats?"

[Scene fade to black. Stop music.]

[----End battle mode----]

[Scene open on the hallway. A Gebler officer is just getting out of the elevator.]

FEI
"Now!"

[The officer reacts as the trio make a mad dash for the open elevator.]

OFFICER
!

[They knock him flat out of the way, and the elevator door closes. Ramsus and Miang are just standing there.]

RAMSUS
(Is it 'him'? Or do I only want to think so...
If it is 'him'... I... I am...)

[A voice appears in Ramsus' head.]

VOICE
... Worthless... ... A reject...

RAMSUS
"GUARD! Double the guards on both shifts.
Don't let those rats in here again."

[Begin music: "Invasion"]

[Scene opens on elevator. Fei, Bart and Margie are in the elevator going down away from camera.]

BART
"Hey, Fei! Do you know where this elevator goes?"

FEI
"I don't know. Where does it go?"

BART
"I'm asking you! This thing wasn't here before."

[Bart turns to Margie.]

BART
"Don't worry. We'll get you back home... somehow!"

MARGIE
"I'm not worried."

[Bart turns back to Fei.]

BART
"Hey Fei, how did the Tournament go?"

FEI
"Uh, I won... I guess..."

BART
"That's what I thought. I knew you could do it."

[Fei walks out the door as the elevator stops. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on hallway. Fei and Co. are in a hallway and proceed through it to the battleship hangar. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the battleship hangar. Fei, Bart and Margie walk out and separate, taking it in.]

FEI
"That's..."

[Camera pan back to show a wide shot of the battleship.]

FEI
"... Gebler's aerial battleship!"

MARGIE
"Yeah, but look what's coming out of it...!"

[Camera pan over the hull to reveal a bunch of Gebler soldiers running down the gangplank towards them. Camera pan up and back in to the doorway.]

BART
"Are you guys in the mood for another battle?"

MARGIE
"Bart, we better get outta here... and fast!"

FEI
"Quick... run!"

[They start running as the soldiers give close chase. They enter a door at the end of the hangar opposite the ship, still being pursued. Scene change. Stop music.]

[Scene opens on a room near the hangar. The alarm sounds. Elly is occupying it. A announcement is heard.]

INTERCOM
There are intruders
in the base!
There are three intruders...
presently heading...
for the dock area.
The two men may be killed...
... but do not harm the girl.

[As the intercom announces, Elly walks towards the door, then turns and walks over in front of a desk with some drug-using equipment on it. She shakes her head "no", and then walks towards the door. Scene change.]

[As Elly walks out the door, Fei and his friends are running down the hallway next to it. What happens next could literally be called running into each other, as they bump heads and realize who the other is.]

ELLY
!

FEI
!

ELLY
"Fei!"

FEI
"You're... Elly? What are you doing here?"

ELLY
"I should be asking you!"

[Elly gets wind of something.]

ELLY
"Don't tell me you're the intruders, Fei?"

FEI
"Huh?"

BART
"If she's in our way, just..."

[Bart heads towards Elly.]

FEI
"Wait a second, Bart! She... Elly is not an enemy!"

BART
"Not an enemy? Are you sane? Look at her uniform! She's a Gebler officer!"

FEI
"..."

[Camera pan over to the door in to the hallway as Gebler soldiers enter and start walking towards them.]

GEBLER OFFICER
They ran in here!

[Pan back to Fei's group fast.]

FEI
!

[Elly runs into her room.]

ELLY
"Hurry! This way!"

[The rest of them follow. Scene change.]

[They stand silently inside as they hear the soldiers' footsteps going past until they fade.]

ELLY
"It sounds like they've gone..."

[Fei and Elly turn back from the door to Bart who's at the rear.]

BART
"Fei, can you explain to me how you know a Gebler officer?"

FEI
"Well..."

BART
"I don't know where you met her, but no matter how you look at it...
she's a Gebler officer! Not an enemy? Where do you get off saying that?"

[Fei and Elly turn towards each other, making eye contact.]

ELLY
"Yes. Special Forces of the Sacred Empire of Solaris...
also known as Gebler... I'm Lt. Elhaym Van Houten of the Ignas Army's Third Assault Division.
And... while returning from a mission to capture the newest model Gear from a Kislev military factory...
... I was attacked by pursuing Kislev Gears and crash-landed in your village..."

FEI
"..."

ELLY
"I wanted to tell you, but I just couldn't bring myself to...
When I heard what my crash-landing in your village had caused... I couldn't tell you..."

FEI
"... I knew."

ELLY
"!? Fei..."

FEI
"I overheard you talking with doc."

ELLY
"Then why?"

FEI
"It was... all my fault. But I lashed out at you with my own feelings...
I'm sorry."

ELLY
"No it wasn't..."

FEI
"Just forget about it. You couldn't help it... You had your own problems."

ELLY
"But, Fei... why are you with them?"

FEI
"I'm cooperating with Bart and his crew.
We came to rescue Margie who was taken prisoner in the castle here."

ELLY
"I see..."

[Elly opens the door.]

BART
"Hey! Just a minute! Where do you think you're going?"

[Elly turns to Bart.]

ELLY
"You want to get out of the castle, right?
In this confusion you can escape through the Gear launch door."

BART
"Great idea! But... do we really buy that?
I don't think so! She talks sweet, but she's probably planning to turn us over to that old bald geezer.
It's a trick, Fei!"

FEI
"..."

[Margie turns to Bart.]

MARGIE
"Wait Bart! She's not a bad person.
She said she'd help us, so let's go with her plan."

BART
"You're always like this!
Can't you see... she's in Gebler!? Don't be so damn trusting!"

MARGIE
"That's not true... is it, Elly?"

BART
"Oh yeah? Look where your ability to judge characters got you...!"

[Bart turns to Fei.]

BART
"Fei, what about you? Do you believe her?"

[Fei turns to Elly.]

FEI
"I made up my mind long ago."

[Elly turns to Fei.]

ELLY
"Fei..."

BART
"Gah! First you, now her!
The whole lot of you can go jump off a cliff for all I care!"

[Elly walks out the door. Scene change.]

[Begin music: "Invasion"]

[Scene opens outside Elly's room. Elly walks out and does a quick scout of the hallway. The rest of them stay in the doorway.]

ELLY
"Wait here a second."

[Elly runs to the adjoining hallway and scouts it, then turns back to the door.]

ELLY
"The coast is clear! Quick, follow me!"

[Elly runs through a door, and the rest follow her. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the Gear Hangar. Elly leads everyone to a docked Aveh Gear. Elly turns to Fei.]

ELLY
"This is the Gear's start up code.
You can start any standard Gear with this code."

FEI
"Elly?"

ELLY
"This is all I can do for you. The rest is up to fate..."

[Bart and Margie walk to the Gear, and then turn back.]

BART
"Alright! Let's go, Fei!"

[Fei stays put.]

BART
"What are you doing? Hurry up!"

[Stop music. Camera pans in closer to Fei and Elly.]

FEI
"Elly! Come with us!"

ELLY
"!?"

FEI
"You're not the type of person suited to a place like this!"

ELLY
"Fei..."

BART
"You're just wasting time talking!
They're coming! We're gonna get caught!"

FEI
"Elly..."

[Elly shakes her head.]

ELLY
"Thanks, but it's impossible. I'm... a Solaris soldier...
This is where I belong. I can't go with you."

[Elly starts to walk away.]

FEI
"Elly!"

[Elly stops, looking away.]

ELLY
"Fei, the next time we meet... we'll be enemies."

[Elly runs away. Fei walks to Bart and they enter the Gear. Camera pan to full shot of the Gear. A huge docking noise is heard and then the Gear walks to the exit and rides the conveyor out to the launcher. Scene change.]

[The Gear launches itself out of Aveh. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the Gear hangar. A whole host of Gebler personnel are assembled in front of Ramsus, Miang and an officer walking in. Elly is in the front row. Ramsus turns to Miang.]

RAMSUS
"Miang, get my Wyvern powered up now! I must pursue them..."

[The officer chimes in as he reaches Ramsus.]

OFFICER
Commander!!

[Ramsus turns to the officer.]

OFFICER
(Commander... I've a message from Hyu...)

RAMSUS
"...What!?"

[Ramsus pauses for a minute, then turns back to the troops.]

RAMSUS
"Stop the power up!
Recall all men back to base and wait for further orders!"

[Ramsus thinks out loud.]

RAMSUS
"... That fool. What is he doing down here now...?"

[Scene fade.]

[Scene open on the deck of the Yggdrasil. Pan over to the steering wheel where Fei, Bart, Sigurd, Maison and Margie are standing. Bart's on the outer bridge, looking away. Everyone else is facing Margie.]

SIGURD
"Well, Marguerite, now that we have saved you, may we ask you one thing...?
Why did you go up against the enemy by yourself?"

MARGIE
"Sorry... but... I heard a rumor in town that day...
It was said that the Sect's sisters who were captured by Aveh were still alive..."

SIGURD
"Obviously a groundless rumor started by the enemy in order to lure you out."

[Maison turns to Sigurd.]

MAISON
"Please, don't be so hard on her...
The Nisan Sect is Marguerite's home. It's perfectly understandable."

[Maison turns back towards Bart, who has been facing away, and now turns towards Margie.]

BART
"Then... you thought you could save them alone!? That was stupid!!"

[Camera change to behind Bart. Margie claps her legs together.]

MARGIE
"I believed it! So what!? I was wrong.
But..."

[Margie turns around.]

MARGIE
"But... grandma and mom were already executed..."

[Begin music: "Lost and Broken Heart"]

SIGURD
"Marguerite..."

MAISON
"At any rate, Marguerite is here unhurt. That's the main thing!
Before luck runs out, let's take Marguerite to Nisan. We can talk more there.
Now, I'll go prepare Marguerite's room... Miss Marguerite, may I ask you to accompany me?"

[Maison leaves the bridge and enters the hatch. Margie follows him, but stops at the stairs when Bart yells.]

BART
"Margie!!"

[Margie turns around.]

BART
"Next time, let us know!! We'll go for you!"

MARGIE
"Yeah... I'll do that."

[Margie follows Maison into the hatch. Sigurd turns to Bart.]

SIGURD
"Marguerite is straining herself. Young master, you should be kind to her."

[Sigurd leaves and enters the hatch.]

[Fei and Bart follow everyone down the hatch. Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]

[The door to the bridge is blocked by the pink plush thing Margie took from the cell, and Fei and Bart stop in front of it.]

BART
"That Margie...!
Leaving a strange stuffed animal in a place like this! Because of this, we can't get into the bridge."

SQUEAKY VOICE
It's not strange!

BART
"Hey, Fei!! Stop the funny voices, will ya!?"

[Fei turns around.]

FEI
"Huh? I didn't say anything."

BART
"... That's weird...
Anyway, let's ask Margie to get rid of it."

[Fei and Bart descend into the cabin area, and find Maison in the Gun Room.]

MAISON
"... sob... sob... Oh to think that Marguerite has now returned...
Come to think of it, this is the second time we have had to flee from the Royal Capital.
It seems an awful long time ago... That night that I took them with me to escape..."

BART
"Yeah and on top of that he was bold enough to steal this ship along the way.
You know this used to be the kingdom's flagship?"

MAISON
"Yes, it was all Sigurd's doing. So courageous of him even at such a young age.
Anyway, this Yggdrasil can be considered a keepsake of the late king for the young master."

BART
"It kinda feels like you're stuck to me for life.
Even though you used to be my personal knight, right? Now I'm just a kid pirate!"

MAISON
"But eventually you will become a proud lord."

BART
"I gotta hurry up and grow up or I'll never be proud of myself.
And I won't be able to win against him!"

MAISON

"How may I be of service?"

[Maison sells them goods.]

MAISON
"I hope I can be of such service again!"

[Fei and Bart go to Margie's room next to the Gear dock and speak to her.]

BART
"Hey, Margie!
Get rid of that strange stuffed animal sitting in front of the bridge. It's in our way."

MARGIE
"It's not a 'strange stuffed animal'! It has a name.
It's name is..."

[Pick a name: Chu-Chu]

MARGIE
"Her name is Chu-Chu!"

[Margie looks around the room.]

MARGIE
"But, that's weird. It was just here, where I put it, a moment ago..."

[The door opens.]

[Everyone turns to the door. Stop music.]

[The plush animal walks in by itself!]

[Begin music: "The Sky, The Clouds, and You"]

CHU-CHU
Nice chu meet chu!! I'm Chu-Chu!
I fell in love with you when I first saw you in Bledavik!! Wherever you go, I shall go chu!

[Chu-Chu spins around facing away.]

CHU-CHU
Oh my... I just declared my love!!

[Chu-Chu turns back.]

BART
"What we thought was just a stuffed toy is actually a living animal! Weird!"

MARGIE
"No wonder it felt strangely lukewarm!"

[Bart turns to Fei, and Fei turns to Bart after a second of Bart staring at him.]

FEI
"Wha, What!?"

BART
"Looking good, Fei!!"

[Fei puts up his dukes.]

FEI
"Shut up!!"

[Bart turns to Chu-Chu.]

BART
"It's all right. I, as the captain, give you my permission!"

[Chu-Chu jumps and squeaks.]

CHU-CHU
"Yeah, yeah!"

[Fei puts his hands behind his back, looking down.]

FEI
"... Suit yourself!"

[Bart turns to Fei.]

BART
"Ha, ha, ha!
Well, I don't want to interrupt you two, so I'll wait outside!"

[Bart leaves. Fade music.]

[Chu-Chu begins pacing the floor.]

[Begin music: "Bonds of Sea and Fire"]

MARGIE
"..."

[Fei turns towards the door still looking down. Margie turns to Fei.]

MARGIE
"Thank you for your help at the castle.
I heard you really riled it up at the tournament.
Bart was bragging how you're both buddies and all."

[Fei turns around quickly.]

FEI
"... Re... really?"

[Margie turns away from Fei.]

MARGIE
"I'm so ashamed...
I want to be of help to Bart but I ended up owing him again."

[Margie turns back to Fei.]

MARGIE
"Fei, have you seen Bart's back?
He's got scars all over his back and it looks so painful.
Long ago, when the two of us got caught by Shakhan, Bart protected me from getting beaten..."

[Margie turns away.]

MARGIE
"At that time, I decided to be his follower... to serve and protect him!
But, he is the one who's always protecting me..."

FEI
"..."

[Margie turns to Fei.]

MARGIE
"Uh, oh, so sorry... Anyway, thanks a lot for saving me!"

[Fei walks over to Chu-Chu.]

CHU-CHU
"Wow! A delicious looking spider!"

Munchu munchu

CHU-CHU
"Presents are a way chu a woman's heart! Here's your reward!"

Received Ether Veiler!

[Fei walks out the door.]

[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]

[Bart joins Fei and they head for the bridge and meet Sigurd.]

SIGURD
"Young master, according to Margie, there's quite a troublemaker in Gebler."

BART
"Yeah... So, who the heck is he?"

SIGURD
"Kahran Ramsus of the Holy Solaris Empire's Special Foreign Affairs Agency...
In other words, he's the commander in chief of Gebler.
It seems that Gebler isn't just after the excavation sites around Aveh after all."

BART
"You mean, they're not after the Jasper?"

SIGURD
"If that's their only goal they wouldn't need to send an important man like him!
Young master, this could become unexpectedly complicated..."

FEI
"Doc hasn't come back yet, has he?"

SIGURD
...

[Sigurd speaks after a short pause.]

SIGURD
"Hyu... I mean, 'doc'... No need to worry about him. He'll join us soon."

[Sigurd prepares to drive.]

SIGURD
"We shall have to enter into Nisan through the secret road.
Let's keep on the lookout for a lone tree in the desert as a sign of where the road lies buried...!"

[Sigurd cranks the engine.]

SIGURD
"Shall we launch the Yggdrasil?"
[Go ahead!]

[Scene fade. Music stop.]
