Chapter 13: Road to Nisan

[Scene opens north of Aveh. The Yggdrasil takes off from north of Aveh and heads to the northwest corner of the desert, then submerges into the ground next to a lone tree, then moves under the water to the other side. Fade music. Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]
[Scene opens on a large plain docking ramp extending to nowhere. Scene change.]
[Scene open on the lobby with the vending machines directly below the Gun Room. Sigurd and Citan are at opposite sides of the room, having a conversation.]
SIGURD
"... Now I see why you came down to the surface...
Alright, I
understand you. But Kahran Ramsus... taking over the post of Aveh is pretty
annoying."
[Citan assums his thinking posture, tapping his feet a few times.]
CITAN
"The home country might have had some special reasons."
[Sigurd nods.]
SIGURD
"Yeah... obviously."
[Citan looks up.]
CITAN
"But perhaps there is still a chance of success...
You and I, who
used to be called 'Elements' at the commander's training school in 'Jugend', are
both here!"
SIGURD
"Hope you are right..."
CITAN
"By the way, she is still...?"
SIGURD
"According to Fei, there was a female aide on Kahr's side...
And
he said that she had indigo blue eyes and hair. ... So it must be her..."
CITAN
"So all the old 'Elements' members are on the surface world
now..."
[Sigurd turns around.]
SIGURD
"I guess so..."
[Sigurd walks to a plant display next to the sofa.]
SIGURD
"Hyuga... To be honest with you... she scares me.
She supports
Kahr and is kind to anyone, I know that very well.
But sometimes I felt a
strange fear in her. That bothers me more than Kahr being in this land."
[Citan walks a few steps and turns to Sigurd from across the room.]
CITAN
"That cannot be true... Not in her..."
[Sigurd turns back to Citan.]
SIGURD
"Yeah, I don't want to believe it, either...
But don't you
remember how I could always sense these things quite accurately?"
[Citan nods.]
CITAN
"Right..."
[Citan looks up at Sigurd.]
CITAN
"By the way, have you told the young one yet...?"
[Sigurd shakes his head.]
SIGURD
"No, not yet.
I don't want him to worry until we know exactly
what Solaris' objectives really are.
But I have to tell him eventually
though... Anyway, Hyuga, have you gotten any information?"
[Citan shakes his head.]
CITAN
"Not really... I left there before going into the center
section..."
[Scene cut to the top of the stairs in the Gun Room. Camera pans up from Sigurd and Citan to reveal Fei at the stairwell's top, eavesdropping.]
VOICE
(Fei!!)
[Fei jumps.]
[Bart walks up to the stairwell from behind Fei. Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
(Oh, it's you Bart!? Don't scare me...!)
BART
(Sorry-dorry.
It sounds like Sig and your doctor friend know each
other pretty darn well...
Sig... Damn, I thought I knew everything about that
guy!)
[Fei turns back to below.]
FEI
(When did doc get back...?)
[Scene change. Scene opens on the empty dock. Five associates of Nisan are standing at its end as the Yggdrasil rises to dock with the platform. Camera pans down across the Yggdrasil as it continues rising and docks. Scene fade.]
[Scene opens on the deck of the Yggdrasil. Bart is standing at the gangplank, where five Nisan associates are waiting at the bottom. Sigurd and Margie flank him on one side, Maison, Fei and Sigurd on the other.]
SIGURD
"I'll complete the remaining checks onboard.
I'll leave the rest
up to you, Maison."
[Maison turns to Sigurd.]
MAISON
"As you wish... I will have the honor of accompanying the
others."
[Maison turns to Bart. Bart nods and walks down the gangplank as the camera follows. The center associate walks up to him.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Bartholomew, healthy as ever I hope?
[Bart nods.]
BART
"Yeah. How's the town?"
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Since we got word several days ago that there might be an
army advancing from the Royal Capital the Sect's representatives have been in
discussion.
BART
"What have they come up with?"
NISAN ASSOCIATE
For now, they just plan to improve the local
defenses.
Also, anti-Shakhan people have been gathering here... probably
because they heard about what's going on.
BART
"That's reassuring."
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Yes.
However the residents are starting to feel
uneasy.
People are starting to take refuge up north in the mountains.
[Bart shakes his head.]
BART
"Can't blame them."
NISAN ASSOCIATE
By the way, how's Marguerite...?
BART
"Better than we thought. But I know she was in a lot of grief."
[Bart turns to the deck and then moves to the side of the plank. Margie walks down to the associate.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Marguerite! I'm so glad you're safe.
MARGIE
"Thanks."
NISAN ASSOCIATE
All the townspeople are overjoyed by the Great Mother's
return.
[Margie turns to Bart and Bart nods. Scene fade.]
