Chapter 22: Night Purge

[Scene opens on the Battle arena. Rico is walking around on foot.]

RICO
"Who woulda thought I'd be Battling using only my body......"

[Camera pans into in front of Rico as he stops. Distant thumps are heard. Rico looks around to his sides.]

RICO
"...? ... Must be my imagination."

[Rico walks a bit further. Camera pan slowly around to his side. Rico stops. The thumps are heard again, a little closer, and closer together.]

RICO
"That's not my imagination...
What's... this vibration?"

[Rico walks off a little bit and stops. The thumps are heard again, closer and not as far apart. Camera begins to pan behind Rico. Scene cut to in front of him. Camera pan a few feet to the right, not far enough to lose him.]

RICO
"A Gear doesn't vibrate like this... It can't... be."

[Rico walks slowly across the screen. The thumps are faster and closer as he walks. He stops.]

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

[Scene cut to a long distance away as the thumps continue. Rico is a speck in the background as a Rankar runs in, revealing the cause of the thumps.]

RICO
"That's a... Rankar!?"

[The Rankar jumps up to Rico. Scene cut to behind Rico as the Rankar roars at him.]

RICO
"Crap! You gotta be kiddin' me!! I'm supposed to fight that without a
Gear!?"

[Scene cut to behind the Rankar.]

RICO
"Huh? ... That sound... a Gear in flight!?"

[As Rico speaks, scene cut to a short distance away as Weltall lands in the arena. Scene cut to behind the Rankar's face as Weltall runs straight up to him.]

RICO
"A black Gear... Him...!?"

FEI
"Yaaaaahhhrrr!!"

[Weltall knocks the Rankar back. Scene cut to behind Weltall as the Rankar falls backwards and roars from the force of the punch. The Rankar looks at Weltall for a moment. Camera pan up to behind Weltall's back as the Rankar roars at him.]

[Battle: Weltall vs. Rankar R]

[Stop music.]

[Black screen. Weltall takes a few steps and then goes into landing position by the sound. Scene opens on the battleground. Fei gets out of the cockpit and jumps down behind Rico.]

RICO
"... Why? Why are you here?"

FEI
"To get this back. It's not that I came here to save you...
The elevator I happened to use to escape put me in the arena. I saw you were getting attacked. That's
why I saved you... nothing more than that."

[Rico stares out away from Fei.]

RICO
"For a coincidence, that's a convenient story..."

[Fei shakes his head and nods.]

FEI
"It's up to you what you think of it...
So, what're you gonna do now?"

[Rico looks to the side.]

RICO
"... Do what?"

[Fei looks down with his hands on his hips.]

FEI
"I barged into the arena. We're also fugitives... that's why we must
escape. If you stay, they'll probably make you fight that monster again.
This time you're gonna die..."

[Fei nods.]

FEI
"Is that what you want?"

[Rico looks down.]

RICO
"..."

[Fei puts his hands out to emphasize as he speaks.]

FEI
"Even you must have things left to do here!
But in your state of mind..."

[Rico turns around and shakes a fist. Fei looks down.]

RICO
"Silence! Shut up! Twice. That's twice you've..."

[Rico turns around.]

RICO
"... If you want to escape from the Empire, do it now. I have no intentions
of leaving. Even if this is going to be the end for me!!"

[A vibration is felt throughout the arena, but this one is constant. Fei looks to the sides.]

FEI
"... Hmn? What's that...?"

[Scene cut to battle arena background. Nothing is seen as the camera pans over the battle arena to the left. It starts to pan up to reveal that the whole floor is trembling. The rumbling gets louder. Scene cut to behind Fei, Weltall and Rico. Fei looks to the left side.]

FEI
"A... rumbling? What's this vibration?"

[Rico shakes his head.]

RICO
"This vibration... That's... no? It's not coming from the ground."

[Rico ponders.]

RICO
"Is it the... vibration in the atmosphere?"

[Fei looks around... then he looks up.]

[Scene cut to in front of Rico. Fei is looking up.]

FEI
"... Whoa. That doesn't sound good."

[Camera pan up Weltall, as the rumbling gets louder. Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

[Scene opens over Kislev at night. Searchlights are on everywhere. Camera pan past the city to reveal the Hecht flying towards it. Gunfire is heard and laser shots are seen firing from the ground. Camera pans past several escort ships. One of the ships is hit by a laser and crashes into the eastern area of Kislev. Scene cut to closer in on Kislev. Another ship spirals down and crashes on the ground. The entire side of Kislev that the ship crashes into goes dark. Scene change. Stop music.]

[Scene opens looking up on an escort ship from the ground with a couple of searchlights.]

FEI
"What is that?"

[Camera pan down to the ground on Weltall's side. Fei is standing on the hand. Citan runs up underneath him. Constant shudders are felt throughout this scene.]

CITAN
"Fei, it is an aerial attack by Aveh, or should I say, Gebler!
They really are intent on attacking the Imperial capital..."

[Fei looks down at Citan.]

FEI
"What!? What about the civilians?"

[Citan looks up at the ship on the side.]

CITAN
"They plan on directly attacking the Imperial capital, Nortune...
... oh my god!"

[Camera pan up slowly to reveal the Hecht off in the distance, flying slowly across screen.]

CITAN
"That ship is heading... to the power plant! Oh no! That is a nuclear reactor!
Most likely that ship is their main line of attack! If they drop something on the reactor...
the whole Imperial capital will...!"

[Camera pan back to behind Fei.]

FEI
"... Be blown away!"

[Fei stops.]

FEI
"If we can change their course, will that help?"

[Citan turns to Fei.]

CITAN
"Yes, however..."

FEI
"Doc, I'm gonna try. We can't just... turn and run away."

CITAN
"... Alright. Be careful now."

[Fei jumps into Weltall's cockpit. It closes. Weltall gets to its feet. Citan runs back several feet as Weltall's motor kicks into gear. Citan looks up as the sound of Weltall's launch is heard. Citan turns to the side.]

CITAN
"If those civilians do not hurry and get out..."

[Citan runs off. Rico walks into view. He looks in the direction Citan ran, then up at the ships.]

RICO
"..."

[Camera pans up to the roof views again. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens on Elly's cockpit. Broyer's Gear, Aegisknight, is behind her.]

BROYER
"Wha? Who's that? Aren't those the Aveh pirates?"

ELLY
"!? That's......... Fei! What the...!?"

[Scene cut to the other side of Elly's cockpit and behind her seat. Two of her allies' Gears are outside and another flies into view.]

STRATSKI
"Hey, this is Kislev! What's he doing here?"

HELMHOLZ
"He seems to follow us everywhere!"

VANCE
"What's with this guy? A little too persistent, perhaps?"

ELLY
"..."

BROYER
"Third times a charm! Let's get 'em!"

[The Gears fly ahead.]

ELLY
"Ah! Wait!"

[Scene cut to directly behind Elly. A Wandknight flies into view.]

ELLY
"Renk!?"

RENK
"From our last incident, I can tell that you're friends with that Gear's pilot.
But, there's no way we can stop. It doesn't matter that we're escorting the Hecht.
I wanna fight him, not as enemy soldiers, but as rival competitors...
We're the Gebler special forces and we won't be beaten!"

ELLY
"..."

[The Wandknight turns around.]

RENK
"Sorry, I'm gonna have to kick his butt. Any objections?"

[The Wandknight flies off.]

[Scene cut to Elly's side as the Hecht is in the background opposite her.]

ELLY
"I..."

[Scene fade.]

[Scene opens in front of Fei in his cockpit. It's rumbling rather violently.]

FEI
"You're in the way!!"

[Fei fires a blast.]

FEI
"MOVE!!"

[Fei fires again. The rumble stops.]

FEI
"We must change the rear ship's course or... ...!!
... What, ... you again!?"

[Scene cut to directly behind Fei's Gear. Aegisknight is standing on top of the escort ship. As Fei flies Weltall closer it launches towards him.]

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

[Battle: Weltall vs. Aegisknight R]

[Scene opens on Fei's cockpit in front of him.]

FEI
"This is... meaningless!"

[Scene cut to behind Fei's Gear. Weltall is flying towards another escort ship and Swordknight stands on top of it. As Weltall nears it, Swordknight launches towards him.]

[Battle: Weltall vs. Swordknight R]

[Stop music.]

[Scene opens on a stairwell in Kislev. It's red tinted and giving off a wave effect from fire as loud shudders are heard. Civilians are running down it towards camera. Citan runs into view at the top of the stairs as civilians keep running.]

CITAN
"Everyone, over here! Hurry!"

[Hammer runs up to Citan.]

HAMMER
"Master, there're people over there that can't get out! We're doomed!"

CITAN
"Don't give up, Hammer! Fei is fighting too!
Fei... no longer wants to watch innocent people lose their homes, their town, those that are important to them..."

[Flashes of white and shudders. Camera pan back to the bottom of the stairs. Rico is looking up the stairs.]

RICO
"My...... town?"

[Rico turns around.]

RICO
"Hmph, don't make me laugh. Who gives a damn about this crap town..."

FEI'S VOICE
Even you must have things left to do here!

[Rico turns around and looks to both sides.]

RICO
"...... I'm, crap too."

[Rico runs off with the civilians. Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

[Scene opens on Fei's cockpit in front of him again.]

FEI
"Arrgh... I've had it!"

[Scene cuts to directly behind Fei as he pilots Weltall full throttle up past the side of an escort ship to Clawknight.]

[Battle: Weltall vs. Clawknight R]

[Scene opens directly behind Fei as he pilots up to an escort ship with two Wandknights on it. Scene cut to Fei's side. Fade music.]

FEI
"Only two... enemies, huh?"

[Stier flies up beside Fei's cockpit.]

RICO
"Hmph, what a joke... Wasting time on a couple of guys like these."

FEI
"Rico?"

[Fei looks at Stier.]

RICO
"I don't need a reason to beat the crap out of anyone who pisses me off.
And of course that means you too."

FEI
"That's also, one reason."

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

RICO
"Shut up, let's go."

[Stier flies ahead.]

[Battle: Weltall/Stier vs. Wandknight R x2]

[Scene opens on the side of Fei's cockpit with Stier in the background.]

FEI
"OK, now to change the last ship's course... .."

[Scene cut to behind Fei directly. Vierge is hovering in front of the Hecht in his sights. Scene fade as camera pans in. Fade music.]

[Scene opens immediately panning to in front of Vierge.]

FEI
"Elly!"

[Scene cut to the side of Fei's cockpit.]

FEI
"...... Rico, sorry, but you go on ahead."

[Stier turns to face Weltall.]

RICO
"What!? You've come this far and now you're scared?"

FEI
"I'll catch up, I promise. ... Please."

RICO
"... Well, even without you, I can make do by myself."

[Stier turns back.]

RICO
"Then... I guess I'll go on ahead."

[Stier flies off. Scene cut to directly behind Fei's seat, looking out at Vierge.]

FEI
"..."

[----Battle mode----]

[Scene opens behind Weltall facing Vierge.]

FEI
"You're kidding? What are you doing here, Elly?
I thought you agreed to get out of the military!"

ELLY
"That's asking for too much! I'm an officer of the Gebler forces!"

FEI
"Then, you're saying this is also one of your duties!?"

ELLY
"Yes! My duty is to escort the Hecht.
And to eliminate all enemies that get in its way...
So you better get out of the way...
Cause if you don't move then I'll have no choice but to eliminate you!"

[Camera pan back as Vierge flies up to Weltall and punches it, then flies back with a leg up. Camera return to original shot.]

FEI
"Are you serious? You do know what you're doing, don't you!?
How can you say that knowing where that ship is headed and what the outcome may be...?"

ELLY
"..."

FEI
"C'mon, Elly! Say something!"

[Vierge goes back to its stationary position. Camera pan in close to Vierge.]

ELLY
"I know! I do understand what I'm doing!"

FEI
"Then..."

[Scene cut to black screen directly below Vierge. Camera pan in a circle up to above it, revealing the terrain again.]

ELLY
"Change. How I wanted to change...
I've thought of changing, but I couldn't...
I don't have the freedom like you do!"

[Camera pan over to in front of Weltall.]

FEI
"Freedom? Me?"

[Camera pan quickly to behind Vierge.]

ELLY
"Yes! Am I wrong? To be able to choose where you belong...
To be able to fight alongside those who believe in their own cause...
Even if you have much more anguish to deal with...
At least you have the freedom to choose your own path! Unlike me...!"

FEI
"Then why don't you do that too, Elly!?"

[Scene cut to distance shot of the two Gears. Camera pan to the side behind Weltall slowly.]

ELLY
"If I could, I would already be doing it! But I can't...
This is my place. And that's how it is here!"

[Elly stops.]

ELLY
"... So... please, understand..."

FEI
"Elly..."

[Scene cut to Vierge. Pan quickly over to in front of Weltall.]

FEI
"I don't have a place I belong in either..."

ELLY
"Huh?"

FEI
"... Bart and crew, even their whole ship, are all missing...
They disappeared after the battle with Gebler. So, I don't have a place to belong to anymore..."

ELLY
"Really... Then, why are you fighting now?
Who are you fighting for...?"

[Scene cut to above Weltall.]

FEI
"... Do you enjoy this?"

ELLY
"?"

FEI
"Barging into someone else's country, and destroying the place...
Dragging innocent people into becoming victims...
Do you enjoy fighting that much!? Is it that much fun for you to watch people die!?"

ELLY
"Don't be ridiculous! I would never find pleasure in that!"

FEI
"If that's the case... then come with me!"

[Camera pans away from Weltall as it flies towards Vierge. Camera stop behind Vierge as Weltall grabs it.]

ELLY
"Wha!? What are you doing!?"

FEI
"Just forget everything and come with me!!"

[Weltall takes off with Vierge in its hands. Scene fade.]

[----End battle mode----]

[Black screen. The sound of Gears landing is heard.]

FEI
"Let's go!"

[Another docking sound.]

ELLY
"Ouch! What?"

FEI
"Just come!"

[Scene opens on a Kislev rooftop. The whole place is wavy and red. Fei and Elly walk into view. Shudders and flashes of white pepper the scene. They stop at the end of the roof and look out over the area.]

FEI
"Look at this town! Take a good long look! This is what you've done?
Does the word, 'duty' justify all of this? Does it!?"

[Elly walks away a couple steps. Fei turns to the side.]

FEI
"Elly!"

[Elly turns back to Fei.]

ELLY
"But that's all that was left!"

[Fei walks up to Elly.]

FEI
"You're still saying that?"

[Fei holds out his left arm behind him.]

[The sounds fade.]

[Begin music: "Lost and Broken Heart"]

FEI
"...... It's just not like you.
If you don't want to then don't do it.
You shouldn't have to force it just to have a place to belong..."

[White flash.]

ELLY
"..."

FEI
"What was I fighting you for just now? ...... You wanted to know?
I don't really know. I know I was helping Bart and the others.
But I still don't know what I should do. Maybe I'm just looking for a place to fit in.
But I think it's better to fight than do nothing. If fighting helps you or your friends even a bit,
then it's worthwhile. That's...... not nothing. ...... it's something."

[Fei walks past Elly. Elly turns around.]

ELLY
"Fei!"

FEI
"I'm going."

[Elly runs up behind Fei.]

ELLY
"No! You can't! Dominia is not like the other soldiers!
She is an elite within the Gebler elite. She's one of the Elements, Ramsus' personal guard!
You won't stand a chance!"

FEI
"Still, I have to stop this."

ELLY
"Fei..."

FEI
"Citan and Hammer have nothing to do with Kislev...
but they're trying desperately to get the civilians to safety.
Even Rico, who must hate this town, still stays with me. That's why I have to go."

[Fei walks off screen. The sound of a Gear booting up is heard. Elly looks on. The camera pans back to Weltall and it flies off. Camera pans back to Elly as she watches it go.]

ELLY
"Fei..."

[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]

[----Battle mode----]

[Scene opens on black night sky as the Hecht flies from out from under camera and away. Scene cut to the side of the Hecht. Pan up to reveal Weltall and Stier standing on the top of it.]

RICO
"What the heck were you doing, Fei!?
Were you expectin' me to do all the dirty work of clearing away these punks for you, alone?"

FEI
"Sorry about that... Oh, but I see you've made a girlfriend...
If we can defeat her, we should be able to change the course of this ship. Let's go!"

[Camera pan to above the two Gears to reveal a strange Gear like object attached to the Hecht.]

DOMINIA
"Hmph.
Just one more extra runt isn't going to allow you to down the 'Ship-Bomb Hecht'!"

[Scene cut to behind Weltall and Stier looking up at Dominia's control Gear.]

FEI
"Of course not!
We're not gonna take 'this ship' down. We're gonna take 'you' down!"

[Camera pan into Dominia's Gear.]

DOMINIA
"Hah! What insolence! But what do you expect coming from Lambs...!"

[Battle: Weltall/Stier vs. Hecht]

DOMINIA
"Eeeaaaahh! ... Guh... Why you... Remember this...
One day I'll pay you back for this... I promise!!"

[Tally earnings.]

[----End battle mode----]

[Scene opens in front of Fei in his cockpit.]

FEI
"There's no time! Rico, hurry and change the course."

[A Gear shift is heard. Scene cut to the side of Fei. Stier is in the background grabbing the ship with both hands. Apparently, Weltall is doing the same. Rumbling is heard.]

RICO
"NOOOOOO!!"

FEI
"Whooooaaaaaa!"

[Scene cut to the side of the Hecht. The middle begins to smoke. Camera pan around the side to reveal the two Gears pushing it to a different direction. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the wavy, red-tinted Kislev rooftop. Elly is still standing there. Scene cut to a pan over the town's roof. Scene cut to the side of Elly. Scene cut to another shot of the red-tainted town, closer to the ground. A child is standing there. A woman rushes in, takes the child and runs out quickly. Scene cut to in front of Elly. A shudder and a dark flash is seen. Scene cut to behind Elly. Elly runs off under camera. Scene fade. The sound of an opening cockpit is heard.]

[Scene opens in front of Fei in the cockpit, which is rumbling heavily.]

FEI
"Damn!! There's too much mass!"

[Scene cut to behind the Hecht where the Gears are. The sound of a flying Gear is heard. Vierge flies in as Weltall hovers out of the way at the last second, somewhat surprised. Camera pan over to between Weltall and Vierge.]

FEI
"Elly!? You..."

ELLY
"Hold on!
We can avoid a direct hit on the reactor with three Gears."

FEI
"Ah, ahhh."

[Weltall starts pushing again. Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]

[Scene opens over Kislev as the Hecht is shown. It appears to slightly change direction as the camera rotates around it. Scene change.]

[Scene opens in Rico's cockpit, in front of him on the side.]

RICO
"OK, we've steered it away from the power station. Let's bail out! Fei!"

[Scene cut in to Fei's cockpit, opposite angle from Rico's.]

FEI
"But, now it's heading right for the residential district!"

[Scene cut to Elly's cockpit, directly in front.]

ELLY
"He's right!
We need to bring it down somewhere where it won't cause so much damage."

[Scene cut to behind the Hecht. Pan across the three Gears to Weltall on the right side.]

RICO
"Impossible! We can't change its course anymore than we have!"

FEI
"No! We've got to hold it up as long as we can!"

RICO
"What are you, deaf?"

[Camera pan back away from the Gears a few feet. A couple of mechanical puffs are heard, and the Gears' exhausts disappear.]

RICO
"Huh!? We're overheating!"

FEI
"Damn! Not now!"

[Scene cut to Rico's cockpit.]

RICO
"There's nothin' more we can do! Hanging on anymore will just be suicide!"

[Scene cut to Fei's cockpit.]

FEI
"But..."

[Scene cut to Rico's cockpit.]

RICO
"That's it, I'm bailing out! C'mon!"

[Scene cut to the Hecht as it is descending. Weltall and Stier are in reverse, backing away, and stop after a distance. Fade music.]

FEI
"Elly!"

[Scene cut to close to the Hecht's side. Pan back to the rear to reveal Vierge still hanging on.]

FEI
"Stop! What're you doing? If you do that..."

[Scene cut to Elly's cockpit.]

ELLY
"Don't worry. My Gear is from Solaris. It's still... all right."

FEI
"Elly! What are you doing? If you keep going you'll...!"

ELLY
"But...... what else can we do?
At least it will reduce the damage. ...... Sorry.
It's better than doing nothing."

[Scene cut to beside the Hecht. Pan in close to Weltall.]

FEI
"Ellllllllly!!"

[Scene fade.]

[Scene opens on Elly's cockpit. It begins to vibrate violently.]

ELLY
"... Just hold on a bit more! Please!"

[Scene cut to the side of the rear of the Hecht. Vierge is still holding on. The rumbling stops after a few seconds.]

[Scene cut to Elly's cockpit.]

ELLY
"...! Is this... it...?"

[Begin music: "The Wounded Shall Advance into the Light"]

[Scene cut back to the side of the Hecht. Vierge fades out and then fades back in, falling backwards away from the Hecht slowly.]

[Scene cut to Elly's cockpit.]

[Scene cut to Rico's cockpit, opposite angle from before.]

[Scene cut to Fei's cockpit. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens on the back of the Hecht as Vierge lies on its back, falling towards the ground. Weltall and Stier look on. Camera pans left slowly to behind the side of Vierge. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the pullback shot above Kislev again. The Hecht flies towards the ground. Something flashes in the night sky and flies towards the Hecht. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on an area on the ground in Kislev, still waved and tinted in red. Civilians are running through. Citan and Hammer run in. Citan stops and looks up. Hammer follows suit. Camera pans up to the sky. A mysterious winged Gear flies past the sky, enveloped in shadow. Fade scene to red.]

[Scene cut to above Kislev. The Hecht continues on its downward spiral and finally makes contact with the ground. Fade to white as it explodes.]

[Scene opens on a steamed battlefield. Vierge is laying on it. The winged Gear flies in amidst white tint. Fade to white. Scene fade. Fade music.]

[Scene opens on Elly's Gear from below the controls in front of her, lower than normal. Her face is not seen from this angle.]

ELLY
I'm... alive? ...?

[Scene fade/switch.]

[Scene fade in to reveal a strange bat-winged Gear with a rather sinister-looking expression. The Gear is tinted red amidst a red tinted background.]

ELLY
Who... are you? Why, me?

[The Gear backs up, hovers for a second, and then flies off. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens on previous shot of Elly's cockpit.]

ELLY
Wait...

[Scene fade.]

[Black screen. Radio tuning is heard.]

VOICE
... Elly, Elly...

ELLY
Who...?

[Closeup of Weltall fades in and out hazily in screen for a few seconds.]

FEI
... Elly!

[Weltall fades out completely.]

ELLY
You're...

[Weltall fades back into view.]

ELLY
Fei?

[Begin music: "Shattering Egg of Dreams"]

[Scene cut to Weltall bending down, holding Vierge in its arms.]

[Scene cut to Elly's cockpit from the front on the left side.]

ELLY
"Fei?"

FEI
"... Stupid... foolish..."

ELLY
"... Are you... crying? ... sorry."

FEI
"... It's okay."

ELLY
"Can you...... forgive me?"

FEI
"... It's not your fault, Elly. It's not your fault..."

ELLY
"Fei..."

[Scene fade out.]

[Scene fade in on Weltall holding Vierge. Camera pan to Weltall's side.]

FEI
"Elly, let's go back."

[Scene fade. A Gear shifting is heard. Fade music.]

[Scene opens on Elly's cockpit as the Gear sounds continue.]

ELLY
"... 'That person' where..."

[Scene fade.]

[Scene opens on the doctor's house, but she's gone now. Fei, Citan and Elly are in the house. Fei looks down with his hands on his hips.]

FEI
"... First we save the empire, now we're being chased by them..."

[Citan assumes his thinking posture.]

CITAN
"We cannot make a wrong move with security this tight..."

[Fei looks up and then looks around the room.]

FEI
"Hammer's our only hope... He's awfully late though."

[Begin music: "Invasion"]

[The 2, 1, 2 knock on the door is heard. Fei looks at the door.]

FEI
"Looks like Hammer's here."

[Camera pan to behind Elly. Fei walks over and unlocks the door. Hammer walks in.]

HAMMER
"Bro, Citan!
I got the key info that should help us get outta the capital!"

[Fei nods.]

FEI
"So what's the info?"

HAMMER
"The empire's new super airship,
... 'Goliath'. This is it, bro."

[Citan taps his foot.]

CITAN

"I know that facility. I've talked to you about it before. The Imperial
facility... I infiltrated... I never knew that something like that was in the basement..."

[Elly looks down. Citan looks at Elly.]

how you infiltrated the base?"

"Yes, Citan."

[Elly folds her arms.]

"Way north, beyond the Kislev Imperial capital...
beyond the 'carved out portion of the mountain peak' lies the Imperial city's military facility."

[Fei turns to Elly, looks at Citan, then back at Elly.]

"Good, let's take that...
... before the empire decides to launch a counter-attack against Aveh."

[Citan and Elly both nod. They group up with Fei. He walks over to the bathroom door. Camera pan to in front of Fei on the side. He looks down and puts his hands on his hips.]

FEI
"... This door was to the toilet, right?
... It's okay, don't worry!"

[Fei looks up and laughs. He examines the door again. Elly and Citan both walk away a bit.]

ELLY
"Fei, that's the... Oh... never mind. Nothing..."

[Elly looks down and folds her arms. Fei turns to Elly.]

FEI
"Elly, your face is red."

[Citan looks down thinking. Elly shakes her head quickly and looks down.]

ELLY
"It's... n, nothing! Let's hurry up and go, Fei!!"

[Fei examines the door again. Citan looks down thinking.]

CITAN
"Fei, that is the toilet.
The exit is that way, unless... you cannot hold it?"

[Fei looks down.]

[Citan looks up and bursts out laughing. Then he puts his face on his fist and drops his arm.]

CITAN
"I am just kidding."

[Fei talks to Hammer on the way out.]

HAMMER
"Bro, you wanna buy something? ...
Just kidding. I'm all outta items."

[Fei unlocks the door. Hammer turns to the group and they look back at him.]

HAMMER
"Oh, yes! I forgot to tell you about Master Rico, bro."

FEI
"You've seen him?"

HAMMER
"Yeah, and I brought up our plan to escape from the capital... Says he
can't help us though."

[Fei looks down.]

FEI
"... I see."

[Citan nods.]

CITAN
"Fei, he has his own path he must take. Now... let us go."

[Elly looks at Fei.]

ELLY
"... Fei, we must hurry to Aveh..."

[Fei shakes his head and looks at Elly.]

FEI
"Huh? Uh yeah... I know, Elly. We have to hurry...
If we go through the front gate we might have to fight the guards...
Hammer, once we break through, fall in behind us."

HAMMER
"That's my specialty. Leave it to me, bro. And put up a good fight!"

[Fei nods and looks at the others.]

FEI
"Doc, Elly.
Let's go. Our destination is the imperial military facility up north."

[Citan and Elly nod. Hammer walks up a step quickly.]

HAMMER
"Ju, just a minute! There's something I have to tell Elly."

[Elly turns around and blinks a couple times, then turns to Hammer.]

ELLY
"Tell... me?"

HAMMER
"Yes'm! It'll be real quick."

[Elly looks at Fei. Fei nods. Hammer and Elly walk to a corner. Scene fade.]

[Scene fades back in as Elly and Hammer walk back to their original spots.]

HAMMER
"All right!"

[Citan turns to his thinking pose again.]

CITAN
"... All right?"

[Hammer speaks very quickly.]

HAMMER
"Uh, nothing!!"

HAMMER
"Good luck in breaking through the front gate, bro, and you too Citan!"

[The trio leaves. Fei walks back in and talks to Hammer.]

HAMMER
"... Use the key like... Oh!? Wh, what happened, bro?
Did you forget where the base is? Sigh, fine then.
The military facility is to 'the north of the capital' 'beyond the carved out part of the mountain range'.
You're all set now!"

[They leave again. Scene change.]

[Scene opens outside A Block. Fei & Co. head for the south edge of town where three guards are stationed at the exit. Camera pan to behind Fei. City Guard 2 looks at Guard 1.]

"... Hey! Isn't he the guy in the 'wanted' poster... perhaps?"

IMPERIAL CITY GUARD 1
"... Yeah, they say that everyone has two or three people that look exactly like them in this world..."

[Guard 1 looks at Guard 2.]

"Besides, even if he was that 'wanted' guy, what chance would mere guards like us have against him? He's the ex-Battling Champ!"

[Guard 2 looks back towards Fei.]

[Camera pan down to behind Fei's group as they get in defensive stances, facing off against the soldiers.]

"We've got to give it a try! Doc! Elly! Let's try and force our way through here!"

"... So it is the only thing we can do, right?"

ELLY
"Wait a second! Do you really intend to do this?"

IMPERIAL CITY GUARD 1
"Oh no! They're serious!"

"There's no way we can beat the Champion!!!"

[As Guard 3 speaks, Rico runs out of nowhere and K.O.s all three guards within two seconds! A howl is heard.]

You plan on seizing the new mega-battleship 'Goliath'? Well, I'll give you a hand... up to the city limits."

[Fei shakes his head.]

"... You don't want to fight together with us?"

RICO
"... Make no mistake here! I don't intend to become friends with you guys!"

[Rico turns around.]

"I have something I have to do and I have to do it on my own...!
When we leave the Imperial capital's precincts, you can let me out anywhere that is convenient, O.K.!"

[Fei looks down.]

[Citan assumes his thinking posture.]

CITAN
"Well, at least until we escape from the city area we have got a secure ally.

Then the Kislev Imperial capital's military facilities await us! We had better make haste!"

[Rico walks off. The others run after him. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the pullback shot of Kislev. Big Joe is hanging around between districts.]

BIG JOE
