Chapter 37: Sky City Shevat

[Scene opens in a circular room. Camera pan down from the top to reveal Fei, Elly and Bart standing in front of the mystery girl.]
GIRL
"This is the dock floor located at the lowest layer of Shevat."
[The girl looks at the whole group, then turns back to Fei.]
GIRL
"I met you a little while ago. My name is Maria Balthasar."
[Fei looks down.]
FEI
"Balthasar...? I've heard of that name before."
[Bart turns towards Fei, then looks down with his arms folded.]
BART
"Hey, Fei. Isn't that the same name as the eccentric old
man?
Remember the crazy old man playing with Gears underground Aveh?"
[Fei looks up.]
FEI
"That's right! Ol' man Bal, the hermit."
[Fei nods.]
FEI
"That reminds me, the Gear I saw resembles Bal's Gear, Calamity."
MARIA
"Calamity!? That's the prototype Gear my grandfather made."
[Maria looks at Elly, Fei, quickly to Bart, then back to Fei.]
MARIA
"Do you know my grandpa? Where is he now!?"
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"I just happened to come across him in the cavern underneath Aveh's
desert.
I didn't know him that well... So you're Ol' man Bal's
grandchild."
MARIA
"Yes... but I haven't seen him for the past few years..."
[Maria turns towards Elly and looks down.]
MARIA
"He said he was looking for something very important.
And he left
by himself...
My father was captured by Solaris and his whereabouts are not
known either..."
[Bart turns towards camera and nods.]
BART
"But, the crazy o... your grandpa looked just fine.
He's the kind
that never dies. Don't worry, squirt."
[Bart and Maria turn to each other.]
MARIA
"I'm not a 'squirt'!!
Besides, my grandpa isn't a crazy old man,
I know it!!"
[Bart nods.]
BART
"Sorry. Don't get mad, squi... Maria.
I didn't mean to offend. I
apologize. Sorry, sorry."
MARIA
"I heard you say sorry once already. You don't need to say it
again."
[Maria turns towards the center of the chamber.]
MARIA
"Anyhow... Queen Zephyr is waiting.
Please go ahead and take the
elevator to go upstairs.
I still have to finish inspecting Seibzehn."
[Maria turns back to the group.]
MARIA
"I'll show you the way to the Palace when the time comes.
Till
then, please take a look around town."
[Maria nods.]
MARIA
"I'll see you later."
[Maria walks to the left side of the room. Camera pan slowly to a door. Maria walks in. The door closes. Camera pan back to behind Fei. Fei turns to the others.]
FEI
"Alright. Let's go up there."
[Elly looks down.]
ELLY
"Shevat... the only organization that stands against Solaris..."
[Elly looks up.]
BART
"Okay, let's bring 20-30 of those Gears that kid was riding on,
home!"
[Camera pan up slightly. The group walks into the door Maria used and goes down a passageway to another door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a green-tinted Gear Hangar. The group walks over to Maria, who's inspecting Seibzehn, the only Gear in the hangar.]
[Begin music: "Gathering Stars in the Night Sky"]
[Camera pan to behind the group and pan back to reveal Seibzehn's head, cloaked in darkness.]
MARIA
"This Seibzehn was developed by my father.
At the research
institute in Solaris..."
[Maria turns to the group after a long pause.]
MARIA
"I just turned five years old at that time, and had no clue what was
happening.
Using me as a hostage, they forced my father to continue the
research..."
[Maria turns back. Camera pan in closer to Seibzehn's head.]
MARIA
"But he never showed his pain or sorrow in front of me...
He
always smiled and said...
' Don't worry, Maria, Seibzehn will be by your side
to protect you...' "
[Maria pauses.]
MARIA
"Five years ago, that day, when I fell behind in our escape...
My
father protected me and ended up being left behind..."
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in, in front and above of Maria. She looks down. Camera pan back slowly to behind Seibzehn's head.]
MARIA
"My father's voice, his smiles... are leaving me.
They are far
away, becoming obscure...
I believed this would never happen... I swore I 'd
never forget...!
Now, the only connection between my father and me is this
Seibzehn..."
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in, in front of Seibzehn on the right. Pan to the left a couple feet.]
MARIA
"But... I'll save my father someday!
I'll bring back my father's
smile! Seibzehn and I will do it, I swear...!!
I swear...!! ..."
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in a good distance behind the entire group.]
MARIA
"Sorry... I shouldn't have told you such a bizarre story...
It
has nothing to do with you..."
[The group prepares to leave.]
MARIA
"It'll take a bit more time to inspect Seibzehn.
Please go up
there, and take a look around town."
[The group leaves. Stop music. Scene change.]

[Scene opens on the passageway. Fei & Co. get up the elevator to the main levels of Shevat. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the main Shevat area. Fei finds a Dawn Rock outside. The group enters the Old Capital of Shevat, Aphel Aura. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens on a catwalk high above the clouds. Fei walks up and talks to a man near the entrance.]
MAN
Oh, we rarely have visitors from the surface.
Welcome to the
wandering city in the sky, Aphel Aura.
[Scene cut to shot of the entire city. Begin to pan around the large tower halfway and stop.]
MAN
This city used to be the capital of Shevat, an independent liberal
country that fought against Solaris.
A place that turns yesterday's tears
into tomorrow's smiles... That's what they called this city a long time
ago...
But now, those hopes and despairs have been worn away long
ago...
Probably the only things that remain are the echoes of
resentment...
[Scene fade and switch back to the group, behind Fei. The man turns to Fei.]
MAN
You might be able to find something that can solve your troubles and
sadness.
But fate can be cruel sometimes... Don't forget that.
[The man indicates the stone behind Fei.]
MAN
And, that stone plate floating there is called a Stepping Stone. It
moves with people on it.
Try and get on it and talk to the stone. It'll be
glad to give three of you a ride.
[The man turns away.]
[Fei and his group ride a Stepping Stone platform into the ground and find a circular living chamber. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the living area. A man and a nurse are at one corner.]
NURSE
Back in Kislev, I used to deal with homemade medicines.
By the
way, I've heard rumors that the enemy has some really cool medicines.
I
wanted to learn some of those techniques, so I snuck into their shop but... I
was a little clumsy... heh.
[The nurse stops.]
NURSE
I got desperate and somehow managed to escape, and make my way to
Thames - the city I had heard stories about. That's where the good people here
picked me up.
If they hadn't picked me up then, without a doubt, I would've
been a guinea pig for their experimental drugs... Because I'm so cute.
[The nurse turns back. Fei turns to the man.]
MAN
So where did you fellas come from? From the looks of it, I'd guess
you're from the Ignas continent.
Were you saved by the people here too? I
understand. We were all in the same situation.
Everyone's got their unique
story on how they got involved in this fiasco with the Gebler and the 'Ethos'
and all.
The usual pattern here is that many of the people were almost
eliminated for some reason they don't know but were saved by the people here
before they were doomed.
[The nurse turns to the man.]
NURSE
Yeah! Even if I were to have returned back to the land, they would
probably try to capture me again.
It wouldn't matter how many lives I had, it
still wouldn't be enough.
So I've decided to stick around here. That's
probably the case for the majority of the people here.
[The nurse turns away.]
NURSE
And anyway, don't you wanna make the bad guys pay for it? They gotta
be crazy if they think we'll just take this lying down!
MAN
That's basically it. From now on we're all in the same boat. Welcome
aboard!
[Fei & Co. go outside below. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on another section of Shevat. Fei tries another stone platform, but looks down when there's no response.]
FEI
"Uh... it doesn't move. Is it broken...?
...? There's something
small written here...
'The one who attains the dawn, the dusk, and the
darkness shall climb the path to heaven... Wiseman'
What is this?"
[The group returns to the main level. Scene change.]
[Scene opens outside on the main level. Fei's group climbs to the top of the large tower and finds a woman there. Camera pan back as she speaks.]
WOMAN
Why do humans hate and hurt each other? Everyone lives under the
same blue sky...
Will there ever be any relief from the pain of losing what
was precious to us?
When will it be the day we can understand what all this
loneliness and sorrow was for?
In short, we may be repeating the same mistake
we made 500 years ago...
[The group drops to the bottom of the tower and finds a door there. They enter. Stop music. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "The Sky, The Clouds, and You"]
[Scene opens in a normal circular room of Shevat, but... it's inhabited by Chu-Chu lookalikes! Camera pan back away from the door to reveal the whole chamber.]
FEI
"Oh...? This..."
[Bart looks down with his arms folded.]
BART
"Ha, ha! Who woulda figured!"
[Bart looks up. Elly nods.]
ELLY
"If Chu-Chu saw this, she'd probably faint out of pure
happiness."
[The group walks over to an older gray Chu-Chu.]
GRAY CHU-CHU
I like people in Shevat because they're all nice. They treat
Chu-chus the same as themselves... yes, they do.
But I heard people on the
land are all scary. They lie, say awful things, hurt and kill each other...
[The gray Chu-Chu turns to Fei.]
GRAY CHU-CHU
I am wrong, right? They are all nice people, right?
[Not
necessarily...]
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"Everyone's not necessarily kind and good..."
[The Chu-Chu turns to the side.]
GRAY CHU-CHU
I see... I hope everyone understands each other, and lives
happily together someday... yes, I do.
[The Chu-Chu turns back to Fei.]
GRAY CHU-CHU
You're awfully straight forward. I like it. I'll give you
this.
[Item sounds]

OLD CHU-CHU

[The old Chu-Chu stops and looks around.]

[The Chu-Chu looks to the side.]
OLD CHU-CHU
Hmm... I see... You wanna know, yes you do...
Alright, I'll
tell you about the inspirational tradition of the Chu-chu Tribe, yes I will.
[The Chu-Chu turns back to Fei.]
OLD CHU-CHU
Loooong long ago, the Chu-chu Tribe had a great big guardian
god, who could step over huge mountains in one step. The Wondrous Mambo god, yes
he was!
The Chu-chu Tribe and the Wondrous Mambo god lived happily together
in perfect peace, yes we did. A dreamy sweet existence.
But one day, a huuuge
red fireball rained down from the sky, and blew away our guardian god as he was
asleep. Blam, kablam, boom!
But don't worry! The great big guardian god
became a star in the sky! He protects the Chu-chu Tribe, yes he does!!
[The Chu-Chu turns to the side.]
OLD CHU-CHU
Yes, yes, it's a great story... No matter how many times I
listen to it, I'm so moved... yes I do...
Be careful now, remember: Bad guys
that pester the poor Chu-chus will get punished by our guardian god, yes they
will.
[Fei goes up and talks to a Chu-Chu hanging around the top of the chandelier.]
YOUNG CHU-CHU
The angel stood watch as the night ended. Twilight nodded
off in the arms of a lost child from 500 years ago... And the Sea Serpent
swallowed the dark.
A wise gramps taught me that a looooong long time ago.
Don't know what it is, though, maybe a spell, yes maybe it is.
[Fei goes to a merchant in the center of the chamber.]
CHU-CHU MERCHANT
They're so beautiful. These are wonderful things that
nobody else sells, yes they are.
But this's a very important treasure of the
Chu-chu, so I can't sell it to you.
Sooorry. Please go to the counter if
you'd like to buy something. Thank you, thank you.
[Camera pan in closer.]

[Scene opens on a fountain. The group gets off the stepping stone and finds a woman standing at the edge of the basin. Camera pan to behind Fei as they all look out towards the fountain.]
WOMAN
Yes, yes... I'm listening, dear.
It reminds me of the good old
days. This is the place you and I met for our first date, isn't it?
I recall
that on that day, you dear, read me a poem that you said you wrote all by
yourself...
I thought it funny that such a romantic still exists in our day
and age... But I was delighted by it...
Nothing has changed here... Truly
important things can't be taken away by anyone...
[Fei goes out one of the exit doors. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, The Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens on a cove overlooking the town. An old woman is there.]
OLD WOMAN
After all, pain only causes more pain and sadness...
How come
those guys up there don't understand such a simple thing...?
Just relax, have
fun fishing like that sage who disappeared.
[The woman turns to Fei.]
OLD WOMAN
Do you like fishing?
[Yes]
OLD WOMAN
I see. Then, do you want to try catching some fish in the plaza?
Fishing is prohibited there though.
[The woman stops.]
OLD WOMAN
I have some good thread. Want it for 50G?
[I'll buy it!!]
OLD WOMAN

[Fei goes back in. Scene change.]

[The group continues on back out the Chu-Chu exit to the outdoors. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, The Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens outside the structures again. After stopping in a run-down Gear Shop and seriously upgrading equipment, they find a man overlooking the opposite skywalk from the entrance.]
MAN
This is the end of the city. If you're not leaving yet, you better
turn back.
[The man stops.]
MAN
Oh, so you're waiting to meet up with Maria?
[Yes, that's
right!!]
MAN
If that's the case then... under there is a house that no one lives in
anymore.
[Camera pan to behind the man revealing a house on the lower level.]
MAN
Maria often used to go there and sit all alone in the second floor of
that house and think about things.
Why don't you check out the place and see
what you can find while you wait for her there...
[The group goes down to the house. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the house's living room. Fei walks over to the table and examines a doll.]
FEI
"Huh...? This doll has something in its hand."
[Item sound]
Received Dusk Rock!
[Fei heads back to the mystery stone area from before. Scene change.]
[Scene opens near the stepping stone. Fei goes to it and kneels.]
FEI
"Alright, then... Set those three stones we found into here..."
NOTICE
The stepping stone has been brought back to life.
Do you want to
go up?
[Yes]
[The elevator takes them up to the top of Shevat and down a secret chimney.]
[Scene opens in a secret room. Fei gets off the stone and examines a nearby desk.]
[Item sound]

FEI
"A Chu-chu idol... Is this a representation of Chu-Chu's guardian
god?
You think this is what Chu-Chu rides when it grows so she can
fight...?"
[Fei stops.]
FEI
"... ... ..."
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"Let's not imagine things! It's not good for your heart!!"
[Fei raids the room and finds a journal.]
JOURNAL
I don't care how it all began nor do I care what happens in the
end.
I just live with Chu-Chu, and die with Chu-Chu!
To hell with humans!
They're liars, greedy, selfish...!
I'm going away. I've had enough of
it...!
[The group goes back to the deserted house, ascends to the second floor and enters a side door. Stop music. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a room with a blown out wall and stone chunks cluttered everywhere. A rocking horse stands in the center of the room. The group separates and looks out the hole. Camera pan to behind Fei.]
FEI
"This is...!"
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"They were killed by Solaris..."
[Elly looks down.]
ELLY
"..."
[Elly looks up.]
BART
"Tch...! To hell with them...!"
[Fei goes to the rocking horse. It begins to rock and slows. Camera pan to behind Bart on the side.]
[Begin music: "Tears of the Stars, Hearts of the People"]
[Elly looks down.]
ELLY
"We're fighting over lives, aren't we...
And at times involving
those that have nothing to do with this struggle..."
[Elly looks up.]
BART
"Damn it...!!
All you want is to win!? Don't you care about
anything else?"
[Fei looks down.]
FEI
"..."
[Fei looks up. The door opens and Maria walks in.]
MARIA
"There are a lot of people who don't care if they hurt
others..."
[The group walks to face Maria.]
MARIA
"So, this is where you all were."
[Camera pan to Maria's side opposite the blown wall.]
MARIA
"The Queen said this house was destroyed in the great war 500 years
ago.
This house has been kept like this on purpose as a reminder of the
war."
[Maria turns to the group more directly.]
MARIA
"Thank you for waiting. Please come to the Palace with me."
[Maria leaves.]
FEI
"H... hey, wait!"
[Bart turns around.]
BART
"... Disagreeable squirt..."
[Elly nods.]
ELLY
"Let's go toward the palace, shall we?"
[The group leaves. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, The Wind is Calling"]
[The group exits and leaves, heading for the palace. Scene change. Stop music.]
[Scene opens outside Shevat's area. The group walks to the palace. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on an elevator shaft. The group rides past camera to the upper floors. Scene change.]
[Scene opens at the top of the elevator shaft. The elevator comes up and docks.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[The group walks out of the elevator and finds Maria there.]
MARIA
"This way, please."
[The camera pans with Maria as she walks to a door behind her. She turns back to the group, and then opens the door and walks in. Camera pan back to the group. The group starts to explore the main hall and enters the kitchen. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the kitchen area. Fei goes to the back and finds Midori (see Chapter 2) talking to a Chu-Chu.]
MIDORI
"...
Chu-chu... My friend..."
[To make things even stranger, Yui (see Chapter 2) is the cook in the kitchen!]
YUI
"Oh, welcome. You look good, Fei.
The meal will be ready soon.
Please join us and eat to your heart's content."
FEI
"...!? Yui!?
W... why, are you here...!?"
YUI
"Oh? Didn't I tell you before? I was born here.
After you left the
village, I decided to return to Shevat along with the survivors of the
village.
Because the soldiers from Aveh and Kislev were showing up around
there..."
[Fei looks down.]
FEI
"I see..."
[Fei nods.]
FEI
"I'm sorry for putting so much trouble on you."
YUI
"What are you saying? It's not your fault.
There's nothing to worry
about.
The people from the village understood after they came here and heard
the story.
They couldn't blame only you for that incident because Solaris was
behind it."
FEI
"Yes... but..."
[Elly turns to the side and nods slowly.]
ELLY
"..."
BART
"Excuse me... but... who's this lady?"
[Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
"Oh, you've never met her before. This is doc's wife, Yui."
[Bart nods slowly.]
BART
"The wife of Citan!?"
YUI
"Aha, I take it... you are Bart, the Orca of the Desert,
right?
I've heard a lot about you. You've been quite busy. It's nice to meet
you."
[Bart shakes his head a couple times.]
BART
"Y... yes! H... how do you do!"
YUI
"Have you met the Queen?
If you haven't, go say hello to her as
soon as possible."
[Fei turns back to Yui and nods.]
FEI
"Okay! Then I'll see you later."
[The group continues the tour and opens the door to the prison block. Scene change. Stop music.]
[Scene opens on a prison corridor. Fei heads down to a cell block. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a cell block. Fei walks to the far end where a Shevat man is looking at some kind of tube cage.]
MAN
This is a Carbonite Cage that petrifies humans alive. Regardless of
whether it was only used on criminals, it is still heinous.
No matter how you
look at it, they've sure thought of cruel things.
[The man turns to Fei and his friends.]
MAN
By the way, you land dwellers know about the Nisan tragedy during the
great war?
Did you hear anything from the higher ups?
[No]
[The man turns to the side.]
MAN
I doubt they told you. Those old men politely avoid talking about
it.
Do they think the truth will disappear if they turn away from the past?
Bunch of fools!
[The man turns back to Fei.]
MAN
Be careful, land dweller. You'll have a terrible time if you open up
your heart to those old men.
Just like they did in Nisan, 500 years
ago...
[Fei's group saunters on and enters a side door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a circular chamber with a triangle-shaped platform in the center. A man stands by it.]
MAN
This is a machine created to put brutal criminals and dangerous
monsters to sleep.
It isn't expected to be used again but it is ready anytime
just in case.
Anyone who has no business here should leave. Get out, right
now.
[The group heads to the bottom and opens the door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the bottom cell chamber. A woman is standing in front of a huge circular cage.]
WOMAN
That day, 500 years ago, that woman was definitely here... There was
no other alternative but to be a captive...
We could've won, at the cost of
many sacrifices! Only if that traitor hadn't disappeared with the woman!!
The
escaped woman freed the beast. The beast sucked human blood and ate their
flesh... And tore the world apart...!
[The woman turns to see Elly.]
WOMAN
Excuse me... Miss... You resemble the girl who was like an angel,
and was sacrificed in the great war...
I can picture Zephyr and the
followers' confusion.
They were the ones who were actually responsible for
the death of Sophia.
In actuality, we are still being punished for that
crime, 500 years ago! It feels almost ridiculous, hahah...!
[The group leaves the prison block. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens on the main floor. The group walks to a door on the upper level. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a laboratory. Several men are working there. Fei's group walks up to one of them.]
MAN
This land is a testing ground for Solaris. Their objectives are
genetic engineering, crossbreeding, and mind control...
They want to collect
data for the newly created organisms and general combat data.
Lambs are mere
livestock to be raised for Solaris' purposes. The 'Ethos' was established mainly
to control the Lambs.
[Bart nods.]
BART
"What!? Collecting combat data!?
Then, this war that's lasted for
hundreds of years on the Ignas continent...
It was just a farce plotted by
Solaris!?"
[Elly turns to the side and nods slowly.]
ELLY
"..."
MAN
It's not a farce. To them, it's an important simulation under strict
restrictions.
Creating appropriate organisms that can align themselves with
the 'Anima Relics' is one of their important objectives.
In any case, the
Lambs will continue to be Solaris' guinea pigs unless someone stops them.
[Fei nods.]
FEI
"..."
[The group goes to the library. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the library. The group walks around and talks to the librarians.]
[EDITOR'S NOTE: The librarians divulge a lot of important background information that needs to be known to understand better some of the later references. However, they are all NPCs. As a result, to make things flow better, a space between lines indicates a change of speaker (the same way as the Orb Faces' conversation has been documented).]
LIBRARIANS
At one point, Solaris and its Gazel Ministry made up of 12
elders...
... dominated the world with more military might than they have
presently.
The people on the land were treated like slaves...
If any of
them resisted, they were quickly and mercilessly dealt with.
They treated the
people as if they weren't living beings.
Eventually, people on the surface
began to rebel from all parts and ultimately...
... led to the Solaris-Shevat
war of 500 years ago.
The great war that unfolded between Solaris and Shevat, 500 years
ago...
It was a heroic battle, with the freedom and independence of the land
dwellers at stake...
The rebel army, which centered around Shevat...
...
was successful at attacking the inner citadel of Solaris, but only with
tremendous sacrifices...
However, before we almost made it, the unthinkable

The sudden appearance of the mysterious army put a full stop
to the battle between the humans, 500 years ago.
Those angels of death,
utterly unrivaled, with no fear or mercy...
Their only intention was to
eradicate all life on this planet.
Even Solaris' proudest Gear battalions
were mere flies to them.
Nothing stopped them as they indiscriminately
slaughtered and trampled upon countless lives.
At that time, people were
certain that the end of the world was approaching...
Dominated by feelings of
constant fear and hopelessness, it was a dreadful life...
The reason mankind was able to make it through and survive certain death, 500
years ago...
... was because of the power of these giants created through
god's wisdom.
Roni Fatima and the other young fighters piloted these giants
and destroyed the heart of Diabolos.
Seeing an opportunity to counterattack,
mankind desperately stood up against Diabolos...
... and successfully
annihilated them.
Roni Fatima, Queen Zephyr and the rest of the young ones
put their lives on the line and won back...
... the future for this
world.

ancestor, Roni, fought alongside Queen Zephyr against Solaris...?

Those giants which fought long ago to save us. An existence
which surpasses all other Gears.
They are the legendary 'Omnigears'.
One
of them is the treasure of the Aveh royal family...
... which is currently
resting somewhere within the continent of Ignas.
But, I can't gurantee
that.
After the war and the collapse of Diabolos, similarly to the land
dwellers...
... the heavily beaten Solaris forces began to pull back and
return to their home country...
... taking along with them vast numbers of
land dwellers as slaves.
We couldn't stop them.
The only way for the
war-torned land dwellers to survive was to depend on Solaris...
After the
brief moment of hope, Solaris once again began to reign over our lives...
A
cold and harsh era had begun.
500 years have past and their reign still
continues...
No one knows how long this is going to last...
Surviving through the great war of 500 years ago and the Diabolos
Collapse...
... we and the rest of our comrades secluded ourselves on
Shevat.
At the time, Shevat was being constructed at the tip of Babel
Tower...
... but we were able to escape to the sky before Solaris once again
ascended to power over the land.
Since then, we've been wandering the skies,
while overlooking the activities of the land below.
You're probably already aware of this...
... but this Shevat is protected
by a special gate made possible by an ancient technology.
Even Solaris cannot
break this barrier. Because of that, we were able to avoid being invaded to this
day.
But even with that, we don't have the power to attack Solaris
either...
It's a stalemate. Basically, we've just been glaring at each
other.
After the war, Solaris used a gate, like ours, to separate itself from the
surface.
And then, they erased all memory of their existence from the surface
dwellers.
Due to this, the surface dwellers are still not aware that they've
been secretly dominated by Solaris all along.
To be born into a false
reality, to grow up in it, and to die in it... without ever approaching the
truth.
... That is the life of a surface dweller.
[The group returns to the door Maria indicated earlier. Scene change.]
[Scene opens under a flight of stairs. Fei & Co. climb the stairs and find Wiseman waiting at the top.]
WISEMAN
"You're finally here... Where have you been?"
[Fei nods.]
FEI
"Why... are you here!?"
WISEMAN
"I've told you before.
I learned martial arts with your father
in Shevat.
The Queen is waiting. Go ahead."
[Wiseman stops.]
WISEMAN
"Go ahead, go in."
[The group walks up to the door. Maria is standing beside it.]
MARIA
"Please come in."
[The group enters the door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a circular chamber with a circular platform a few feet in front of the door. Fei & Co. walk up to it. Two smaller circular platforms rotate around a larger platform behind them and form a step. The rear platform has a young-looking woman, almost a girl, sitting on a throne behind green glass. Fei and his friends jump to the created step. Stop music.]
[Begin music: "The Wounded Shall Advance into the Light"]
[The green barrier in front of the girl begins to slide away to the right behind her. The girl is Queen Zephyr. The group steps onto the platform in front of her. Camera pan to behind Fei.]
ZEPHYR
"Thank you for coming such a long way. I am the Queen of Shevat,
Zephyr."
[Bart looks down with a hand on his hip.]
BART
"Thank you for coming...? What is this? It's just a kid."
ZEPHYR
"I may appear to be like this, but I am actually 522 years
old."
[Fei looks down with his hands on his hips.]
FEI
"522...!? Is that really possible...?"
[Fei looks up.]
ZEPHYR
"Yes...
I and a select few of the vassals have undergone some
special life-extending treatments.
We were required to continue living...
Until that final day approaches. Because of one man...
To continue living...
This is our atonement... for that tragedy 500 years ago..."
[Zephyr stops.]
ZEPHYR
"Let us discontinue this discussion of the past.
I've heard many
things about all of you from Wiseman.
Wiseman has been conducting his
operations on the surface under my orders...
... to keep an eye on that man's
activities.
Also, he was ordered to bring anyone from the surface who would
be of help to us to Shevat...
500 years ago we fought against Solaris for the
freedom of the land dwellers.
Even after that, we continue to resist Solaris
although we are short of any real power."
[Zephyr stands up.]
ZEPHYR
"Land dwellers, can you find it in your heart to help us?
We
must free mankind from the grasps of Solaris...
We must gain true freedom and
build a peaceful world to live in."
[Bart shakes his head slowly.]
BART
"Tch. Something's not right.
This fight for independence from a
tyrant. The battle for freedom.
I see, you make it seem like your intentions
are noble.
In reality though, maybe you're no different than
Solaris?
Anyway, I'm too busy with trying to take Aveh back from that
bastard, Shakhan.
Hate to break this to you, but I don't have the time!"
ZEPHYR
"Hmm... You are apparently nothing like the calm and quiet Roni
Fatima, Bart.
Yet, you are so similar to Roni at the same time... There is
logic behind what you say, though."
[Zephyr nods.]
ZEPHYR
"However, I tell no lie...
... when I say we are doing this
purely for the future of the land dwellers.
If you still cannot believe us,
then defeat Solaris, gain back the independence of the land dwellers...
...
and then see if we still embrace the heavens together.
The pretexts of the
past, the discord between nations. Why be concerned at such a small
scale?
You must look at the bigger picture!"
[Bart nods quickly.]
BART
"Uh..."
[Bart looks up. Zephyr nods.]
ZEPHYR
"It should do you some good if you rest in the palace and think
about it.
You must think about what you ought to do.
But remember, Solaris
has been quite active lately. So we don't have much time for leisure."
[Zephyr sits down.]
ZEPHYR
"As for you, Elly... Your family and friends...
You must
understand that they will all have to be your enemies.
Without this clear
understanding...
... You may be placing your companions in a situation where
it may cost them their lives..."
[Elly nods.]
ELLY
"... Yes... I understand."
ZEPHYR
"Very well, then. Now go and get some rest."
[The group leaves. Scene change. Stop music.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens in the adjoining hall. Wiseman is still there, but Maria isn't.]
WISEMAN
"Fei, go with Shevat.
Your father, Kahn, would've wanted you
to..."
[The group enters a side door and walks through a hall. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a deserted room. Fei walks up to the end and examines a picture.]
FEI
"It's an old picture... It looks like a picture of Queen Zephyr's
family.
Fine looking parents and... Is that her brother next to the Queen...?
Everyone is smiling.
Only the Queen hasn't changed... for 500 years..."
[The group enters the other side door and climbs to a door at the top of the palace. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the top of the palace tower outside. Fei and his friends walk up to find Maria staring out the top of the tower. Fade music.]
MARIA
"Are you finished talking to the Queen?
What do you all plan on
doing...? Are you going to fight alongside the people of Shevat against
Solaris?"
[Camera pan to behind Fei quickly and pan down to his level.]
[Begin music: "Gathering Stars in the Night Sky"]
MARIA
"Everyone is searching for a reason to live, a reason to
fight.
To understand better the meaning of death...
However, that is
something we must find on our own, and make it our own...
That is what my
grandfather said. Though I don't understand what he meant by it..."
[Maria turns around.]
MARIA
"It's already been 5 years since my grandfather brought me to
Shevat.
Grandfather and the Queen always told me not to leave Shevat. That I
must not go to Solaris alone...
There's no way I could lose to any other Gear
in my Seibzehn... There's no way...!
I'll step on all those Solarians with
Seibzehn... Beat them down, beat them all down!!"
[Maria stops.]
MARIA
"Why does grandfather and the Queen stop me?
Don't they care what
happens to father...? Are they just going to stand by and watch him die?
I
can't forgive those people who tortured father, and those who silently stand by
and watch...!"
[Maria stops again.]
MARIA
"Even as we speak, my father in Solaris may be..."
[Camera pan up.]
MARIA
"..."
[The group leaves. Stop music. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[Scene opens on the higher level of the palace area. The group walks back and finds a guest room prepared for them. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the guest room. Fei and his friends walk up to the beds.]

Want to rest in the bed?
[Sure.]
[Stop music. Scene fade.]
[Begin music: "Back to Sleep (2)"]
[Scene re-opens.]
[Begin music: "Shevat, the Wind is Calling"]
[The group returns to Zephyr's chamber. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on Zephyr's chamber. The trio uses the entrance like before and opens Zephyr's protective barrier, then they walk onto her platform.]
ZEPHYR
"Have you decided?"
[My heart is set!]
ZEPHYR
"Alright."
[Stop music. The entire structure shakes.]
FEI
"Huh...!?"
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"What was that shaking all about...!?"
[The door opens. Everyone turns around. Scene cut to in front of the door. Maria walks in.]
MARIA
"Your Majesty...!"
[Maria runs up to the entrance platform. Camera pan with her until she stops.]
MARIA
"Was that enemy...!?"
[A Shevat agent runs in the door.]
SHEVAT AGENT
Your Majesty, something dreadful has...!!
[The agent runs up towards Maria. Scene cut to behind Maria as the agent stops behind her.]
ZEPHYR
"What's the meaning of this?"
SHEVAT AGENT
Yes! That is... We have an intruder in the dock area! The
Gate generator has been destroyed...!
[Fei nods.]
[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]
[Camera pan in closer.]
FEI
"What!?"
ZEPHYR
"What's the damage report?"
SHEVAT AGENT
Y, yes! Sub-systems are destroyed... Gate generation has
dropped 70% from normal!
We're devoting everything to fire fighting and
repairs... It will still take some time!
[Scene cut to above Zephyr as she speakes. Pan back to above Maria.]
ZEPHYR
"What of the intruder?"
SHEVAT AGENT
Yes, we believe it's just a lone Gebler soldier.
It seems
the individual has escaped to the number 17 hangar!
[Maria turns around.]
MARIA
"Number 17 hangar bay!? Seibzehn...!!"
[Maria takes a step towards the door. Zephyr stands up.]
ZEPHYR
"Maria, wait!"
[Scene cut to behind Bart.]
ZEPHYR
"It is too dangerous to go by yourself."
[Maria walks back to the center of the entrance platform.]
MARIA
"But... We can't just let the spy be...!"
[The agent steps up.]
SHEVAT AGENT
Your Majesty, we have our hands full just trying to fight the
fire on the shield generator.
If someone doesn't do something, it's possible
we'll have more losses...!
[Maria nods. Pan in slightly closer.]
MARIA
"I'll be fine. I can go it alone...!!"
ZEPHYR
"Maria, what can you do now when you don't even have Seibzehn?"
[Maria turns to the side.]
MARIA
"...! But..."
[Fei's group walks towards Maria a step. Scene cut to behind Fei on the side as they turn back towards Zephyr.]
FEI
"Then should we go down with Maria?
It's the Gebler, right? I'm
still ticked off at them. I'll take 'em on."
[Zephyr nods.]
ZEPHYR
"... Is it fine with you, Fei?
Please take care of Maria. And be
careful out there."
[Zephyr stands up. Fei and his friends turn around and walk down to Maria. Camera pan with them. Fei nods.]
FEI
"Then, let's get going, Maria."
[Maria walks in front of Fei and nods slowly.]
MARIA
"Then, let's all go together."
[The agent makes a slight step.]
SHEVAT AGENT
Umm, this may be asking for too much, but would it be
possible to have one of you stay behind with the Queen?
[The agent turns to the side.]
SHEVAT AGENT
We do not have the combat experience and... if something ever
happened to the Queen...
[The agent turns towards Fei. Fei looks down.]
FEI
"Alright, I got it. Then one of us should stay behind."
[Fei looks up.]
NOTICE
Who will you leave here?
[Leave Bart.]
NOTICE
Maria has joined the party!
[Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in again. The chosen three regroup and leave the room and head back to the main chamber. Scene change.]
[Scene opens outside the double doors to the Queen's chamber area. An orange Chu-Chu walks up to the group.]
ORANGE CHU-CHU
Oh my, this has gotten serious. It seems you can't get in
because of the emergency security.
But, you are all lucky. A legendary vendor
like me happens to be here through coincidence.
I've got a line of quality
goods, sir... So, if you've got anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.
[Fei buys what he needs. The group goes down the elevator to the main part of Shevat. Stop music.]
[Scene opens on the elevator shaft. It flies past the screen, descending to the main level. Scene fade.]
