Chapter 40: Protect Nisan

[Scene opens outside Shevat. The Yggdrasil flies off and lands near Nisan.]
[Begin music: "Emotions"]
[Weltall, Vierge and Brigandier get out of the Yggdrasil and enter Nisan. Stop music. Scene fade.]
[Begin music: "Singing of the Gentle Wind"]
[Scene opens in Nisan's area. The group heads for the main town. Scene fade. Stop music.]

[Begin music: "Invasion"]
[Scene opens in Nisan. An Aveh soldier is standing on top of the bridge. Fei, Elly and Bart can just be made out behind a house in the distance. Pan to the right to reveal a soldier standing in front of the assembly hall. Scene cut to behind the soldier on the bridge. Scene cut to the square at the bottom of Nisan. Two soldiers are standing by the exit to the cathedral and another stands just off the front of screen. Scene cut to the higher main road. Five soldiers stand watch at various spots along it. Scene cut to the square's south side to reveal two soldiers in the adjoining section. Camera pan up and to the left behind a house to reveal Fei, Elly and Bart. Scene cut to behind the group, who is whispering.]
FEI
(The city's awfully quiet for some reason...)
ELLY
(What's more, I can't see any civilians!)
BART
(They're probably in the hidden shelter.)
[Bart stops.]
BART
(I dunno, but I'd like to think that everything is still okay.)
[Sigurd walks in behind them. They turn to face him.]
BART
(How was it over on your side?)
SIGURD
(Everywhere along the roads was also just as quiet.)
[Bart looks down and folds his arms. Everyone turns to him. Bart looks up.]
BART
(What's your take on this, Sig?)
[Everyone turns back to Sigurd.]
SIGURD
(From what little I've seen, there isn't anything much I can
say.)
BART
(Either they haven't found what they are looking for yet...
Or
they've already found what they were looking for but have just left behind some
guards...
Either way, we still need to check on the safety of the residents
before we even think of pulling out.
Hey, by the way, how is Margie holding
up?)
SIGURD
(From the looks of it, she doesn't seem much different from her
usual self...
But how she feels on the inside... well, who's to know...)
[Bart folds his arms and looks down again. Then he looks up.]
BART
(Really... Thanks for looking after her, Sig.)
SIGURD
(No problem. Anyway, I shall go and command the other unit.)
BART
(Alright. Be careful!)
[Sigurd turns, walks a couple of steps and looks to both sides. Then he leaves.]
BART
(Margie... I thought I told her to stay put in our ship.)
[Bart looks after Sigurd.]
FEI
(She probably couldn't keep calm just staying inside the ship.)
BART
(Yeah, I know but... Well, she's come this far, so we can't stop her
now.)
[Everyone turns towards town.]
BART
(Alright then... Let's get movin'.)
[Scene fade immediately. Stop music.]
[Begin music: "Stage of Death"]
[Scene opens in the Nisan entance area. Two guards are standing near the house door where Fei and everyone were holed up earlier (see Chapter 14).]
GUARD
!
[The guards turn towards camera. Scene cut to behind the guards, revealing a third at the wall. The three stooges (errh... good guys :P) drop in.]
[Battle: Fei/Elly/Bart vs. ShakhanGuard x4]
[Scene re-opens. The group runs around town eliminating guard units until none are left. Camera rotate around Fei's group continuously.]
FEI
"Good! Looks like we cleaned up all the soldiers who were in the
town."
[Scene fade. Fade music.]

[Scene opens on full shot of Nisan and the cathedral.]
NARRATION
With the help of Fei and his colleagues, Nisan was freed from
Shakhan's army.
However, the Fatima Jasper and the legendary treasures of the
Aveh royal family were still in danger.
And now, he's going to play his last
card and Shakhan's true intentions will be brought to light.
[Camera pan in closer. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens in Nisan. Camera shot of the town looking towards the cathedral exit from over the bridge. Birds chirping are heard. Camera pan down slowly to behind a house chimney. Sigurd walks out on to the bridge and turns to his right. Scene cut to behind and above the bridge at a distance shot. Sigurd turns back towards the entrance he used. He then turns to the other side of Nisan. Scene cut to behind and above Sigurd at a distance, showing the other half of town. Scene cut to directly in front of Sigurd at a distance.]
SIGURD
"There are no signs of residents... yet."
[Camera pan back and up a foot or so.]
[Begin music: "Bonds of Sea and Fire"]
[Sigurd walks off the bridge to the left. Camera follows him. Sigurd walks to the assembly hall. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the assembly hall. Chu-Chu, Maria, Elly, Billy, Fei, Citan, Bart, Margie and Rico have all assembled there. Sister Agnes is at the back of the room.]
MARGIE
"You okay? Sister, are you wounded?"
SISTER AGNES
"I'm fine. Marguerite and Bartholomew, I'm sorry..."
[Sigurd opens the door. Everyone turns to him as he walks in. He walks to a place in front of Rico and turns towards Agnes.]
SIGURD
"I took some troops and searched the area, but I couldn't find
anyone."
BART
"Really?"
[Bart turns back to Agnes.]
SISTER AGNES
"Earlier, after everyone came out..."
[Everyone turns back to Agnes.]
SISTER AGNES
"Over half of the residents have fled from Nisan.
After
that, Shakhan's position in the country was compromised so...
he didn't care
about reputations anymore and attacked this land."
CITAN
"I see. A last desperate plan to reverse the situation..."
BART
"Sister, I assume the people remaining in the town are...?"
[Fei turns to Bart.]
SISTER AGNES
"Yes. Hiding in the mausoleum."
[Margie turns to Fei.]
FEI
"Mausoleum...? Hiding in a grave?"
[Fei turns to Margie.]
MARGIE
"The Great Mothers and Kings of Aveh of old are revered there."
[Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"It's not just some regular grave or anything."
[Fei turns to Bart.]
SISTER AGNES
"Bartholomew, about that..."
[Everyone turns to Agnes.]
SISTER AGNES
"Shakhan and the Fatima Jasper...
He's after the Fatima
Treasure."
CITAN
"Treasure...? If he wants the treasure what is he doing attacking
here..."
[Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
"Huh? Ahh..."
[Bart turns to Citan.]
BART
"Actually, the Fatima Treasure is in the mausoleum.
There was even
father's will there, but I didn't tell anyone..."
FEI
"Treasure...
You mean that thing in the picture scrolls you showed
me earlier in your base?"
BART
"Yeah.
If you follow that legend, you're supposed to get your
hands on some great power."
SIGURD
"We must stop them somehow."
[Bart turns to Agnes.]
BART
"There's no problem. The Jasper is..."
SISTER AGNES
"They plan to use the former Mother's retinas."
[Fade music.]
BART
"Wha... what!!"
SISTER AGNES
"Remove the deceased Mother's retina, and break the
seal."
BART
"Use the body of Margie's mother?"
MARGIE
"Mom's...!!"
SISTER AGNES
"I'm sorry. They used innocent citizens and sect followers as
a shield.
There was no other way...
The truth we heard previously from
Margie about the Jasper's true form and how it's used.
They know now... I am
truly sorry."
BART
"Well... I don't blame you. They had hostages!"
CITAN
"Wait a moment. Retinas... what are you speaking of?"
BART
"The Fatima Jasper is the topaz blue pupils of the Fatima
dynasty...
In other words... our retinal pattern.
The doors to the
treasure are opened by that... Or so it is said."
[Bart pauses.]
BART
"However, no one has ever used it. It's not to be used for minor
conflicts.
The doors are to be opened only when the kingdom is truly in
danger.
So neither I, nor my father, nor grandfather,
nor my great
grandfather have ever used it."
CITAN
"So, that is the true form of the Jasper..."
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong"]
BART
"Damn!"
[Margie turns to Bart.]
BART
"That old coot, he wants to profane a holy person's corpse? That's
unthinkable!"
CITAN
"It is a closely guarded secret but the 'Ethos' people are not holy
men.
They simply supervise."
FEI
"Yes, of course they wouldn't feel anything!
Let's go, Bart! Before
the mausoleum is trashed."
BART
"Alright!"
SIGURD
"Young master! I have a proposal."
[Everyone turns to Sigurd.]
BART
"What is it Sig?"
SIGURD
"Currently, Aveh is in confusion with Shakhan running amok.
It
should be very easy to bring down the center with no Gebler units
around.
It'll be the best time to make our return to the capital."
CITAN
"That is a good idea.
Shakhan is most likely thinking of the
Fatima Jasper as his last card.
While we prevent the young one from handing
over the treasure to Shakhan...
a separate force will take back the capital.
Then he will have nowhere else to go."
BART
"I got it... Sounds good.
We can pay everything back in one
shot!"
[Everyone turns to Bart. Scene cut to above and behind Margie.]
BART
"Let's split up!
I'll go to the mausoleum. I'll take Fei
and..."
[Citan.]
CITAN
"If possible, I would like to return to the capital with
Sigurd.
Two former Solarians will dethrone the 'Ethos'... How very
ironic."
[Bart turns around.]
BART
"I see, that'll be good. Then please go help Sig!"
[Bart pauses.]
BART
"So, if that's the case then..."
[Elly.]
ELLY
"I'll go."
BART
"Alright! That decides it!
Everyone else cooperate with Sig!"
MARGIE
"Hold on. I'm going too!"
[Bart turns to Margie.]
BART
"Huh? You don't have to... Oh, yeah.
Sorry, Margie. Come along
with us."
[Scene cut to behind Citan. Bart turns towards Fei's side.]
BART
"Alright, I'm counting on all of you!
He's a dead man the next
time I see him!"
[Scene fade.]
[Scene opens outside the assembly hall. Fei walks out and joins the group of Elly, Bart and Margie. Camera behind and above Bart.]
FEI
"Well, let's get goin'.
Where's this mausoleum?"
BART
"There's an entrance at the rear of the cathedral.
So first of
all, we have to get on the road that runs around this town and go in through the
back way."
ELLY
"Do we have to walk that far?"
BART
"The distance to the mausoleum isn't that much...
But, I don't
know how much more there is to go from there."
[Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
"You haven't been inside there yourself, Bart?"
BART
"Yeah... This is my first time to go beyond the mausoleum too."
MARGIE
"Well, the place is all sealed up. Even I haven't been far inside
of it."
[Bart nods.]
BART
"So neither Margie nor I know much about it.
Sig and them have
already taken off, so we won't be able to return to the ship for a while.
For
now, we're just gonna have to work this out on our own."
[Fei and Elly nod.]
MARGIE
"Alright then, I'm going to go on ahead and wait for you at the
entrance."
[Everyone turns to Margie. Bart nods.]
BART
"We'll come once we finish our preparations.
So could you wait for
us at the entrance until then?"
[Fei and Elly turn towards the exit behind Elly.]
MARGIE
"Okay!"
[Margie runs off towards the exit.]
BART
"Alright... let's get prepped."
[Fei and Elly turn back to Bart.]
FEI
"But, by the looks of it, I don't think we'll be able to find the tool
lady."
BART
"Hmm... Why don't we just leave the necessary money behind
then?
Sure it might not be good manners, but I'm sure they will forgive
me..."
[The group goes into the item shop. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the item shop. Fei goes to the unattended counter.]
FEI
"Oh well, there's nobody around.
I guess I'll just leave the money
here."
[Fei buys stuff.]
[The group leaves. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]
[Scene opens outside the shop. The group exits over the bridge to the east side of the main town. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on full view of Nisan. Fei's party makes its way around to the NE side of the cathedral and finds Margie waiting.]
BART
"Thanks for waiting!"
MARGIE
"Alright, let's go in!"
[Scene change. Stop music.]
[Scene opens at the top of a flight of stairs. Fei looks at it.]
FEI
"I didn't know there was a hidden path behind the cathedral."
BART
"Yeah. It's usually closed off."
FEI
"So the mausoleum's in there?"
BART
"Oh yeah.
If the city's ever in danger, the people are supposed to
take refuge in here."
[The group runs down several long flights of stairs to a door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens at the top of... more fun stairs! (:P) Fei stops.]
FEI
"Hold on... How... far does this go!?"
BART
"Hang in there. It's just a bit more."
[The group runs about oh... what seems like two miles down stair flights and finally finds a door at the bottom. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a bland looking stone room. The group walks in and separates.]
BART
"We're here."
[Fei looks around.]
FEI
"... So, what's gonna happen?"
BART
"Hey now, don't rush me."
[A long pause. Fei and Elly look at Bart and Margie and then turn back. After a few seconds they turn back to Bart and Margie.]
FEI
"You haven't..."
ELLY
"You haven't forgotten what we needed to do...?"
BART
"Hey, lay off and shut up!"
[Bart shakes his head.]
BART
"It's been a while, so don't blame me.
... Crap, I really
forgot."
MARGIE
"Ya want me to open it?"
BART
[... Please...]
[Margie walks up to the end of the room and a panel is descended in front of her.]
BART
"Oh yeah!! Hah! That's it, that's what I thought it was!"
[Fei and Elly shake their heads.]
FEI
(... Is everything gonna be OK...?
I'm beginning to have my
doubts...)
[Everyone walks over to behind Margie. Camera pan with the group. She walks away from the panel after it bleeps. Camera pan over to the center of a metal object at the end of the room. It shifts and begins humming as the door turns into a gangplank. Everyone turns to look. The group walks in. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Stage of Death"]
[Scene opens on a metal floored area. Camera pan up from behind Fei to reveal an Aveh soldier standing at the far end, looking away.]
FEI
!
[The group separates and four soldiers immediately run up and surround them from the front.]
BART
"They've gotten this far!"
[Battle: Fei/Bart/Elly (Margie) vs. Shakhan Guard x4/Shakhan Monk x2]
[Scene re-opens. Fade music. A Nisan Associate runs up from the side to Bart.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Laddie!?
[Another civilian runs up from the other side.]
NISAN CIVILIAN
It's Bartholomew!
Marguerite is with him too!
[The civilian turns around.]
NISAN CIVILIAN
Hey, everyone! It's OK!
[The civilian runs up closer. A huge gaggle of Nisan people run out towards them.]
BART
"The casket!? Is Margie's mother safe!?"
[Margie runs off to the right. Scene cut to behind Elly on the side as Margie runs to a coffin down the hall. She examines it, and then turns back towards the group.]
MARGIE
"It's fine! She hasn't been touched."
[Bart looks down for a second and then looks up.]
BART
"Whew... OK. What a relief."
[Bart turns towards Margie's side then the other side of the civilian gathering.]
BART
"Is everyone... OK?"
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Yes, somehow...
BART
"Shakhan... Where did he go!?"
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Oh yes, Shakhan? No, I haven't seen him...
The only
people that came here were those soldiers that threatened me to stay
quiet...
I'm sorry laddie. If only I'd been braver.
BART
"He isn't here yet... that's odd."
NISAN CIVILIAN
The ground... What's happening to the town now!?
[Bart turns towards the civilian.]
BART
"I took care of upstairs. It's OK to go back!"
NISAN CIVILIAN
Is that true!?
[Scene cut to behind Fei on the side. The associate turns to the civilian.]
NISAN CIVILIAN
Bartholomew, you're indeed powerful.
I've seen you come
and go from time to time and I didn't think much of it.
Exactly who are
you?
NISAN ASSOCIATE
...!
[The associate walks back to his right and turns a step. Bart looks down for a second and then up again.]
BART
"Everyone, I need your attention! My..."
[Bart looks down.]
[Begin music: "Tears of the Stars, Hearts of the People"]
[Scene cut to behind Bart's side.]
BART
"... My friends are currently headed for Bledavik.
They're on a
mission to take down Shakhan from his seat of power."
[Bart turns towards the group of people on his left.]
BART
"There is a need to rebuild this country from scratch again.
I've,
I've inherited that task from our late king."
[Bart turns towards the other side.]
BART
"If all goes well, we'll soon be able to make it a
reality.
Please, believe me, and wait for me."
[Scene cut to behind and above Fei's group.]
NISAN CIVILIAN
You're going to defeat Shakhan!? The... late king...?
[The civilian looks to one side then the other. Then he turns back to Bart.]
NISAN CIVILIAN
Then you're...
[Bart turns to the civilian.]
BART
"..."
[Scene cut to Elly's side. The Nisan associate walks over to the civilian off screen.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
The town's OK now. Let's go back up!
[The associate looks at everyone and then turns to the right hand side from Bart's viewpoint.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Collect all your belongings!
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade back in on the door. The group is no longer standing in front of it, but various Nisan citizens and Sect members are leaving. Scene cut to a distance away from the door. The Nisan associate is talking to Bart and his friends. The Nisan people continue to leave.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
Laddie, be careful out there!
I know you'll make it
ok.
And when you do... you have to promise that you'll come out and announce
who you are.
I want to see you stand on the terrace of Castle Fatima,
proudly!
[Bart nods. The associate walks towards the door several feet and then turns back as the others watch.]
NISAN ASSOCIATE
You gotta win, lad.
You've got my support!
[The associate runs out the door. Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in at the railing in front of the platform opposite the door. Elly, Fei, Bart and Margie are looking out over it.]
BART
"I don't know what happened or what made me say the things I
did.
That wasn't like me to say that stuff..."
MARGIE
"You could have just told them that you were the prince."
[Margie turns to Bart. Bart shakes his head slowly.]
BART
"No, I can't do that yet.
I need to fulfill my father's last
request."
[The group reconvenes and walks to a strange cylinder-shaped elevator in the center of the room. They take it up. Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in after a long pause. The elevator comes up and docks. Everyone gets out. Scene change. Stop music.]
[Begin music: "Bonds of Sea and Fire"]
[Scene opens in a dark corridor. The group walks in.]
FEI
"... It's awful dark in here."
BART
"Oh, they probably have the power shut down because no one's
here."
MARGIE
"We use this lower area as a mausoleum...
So it always has
minimal power available for use. But, not even the sisters are allowed in
there."
[Elly shakes her head.]
ELLY
"... Smells like mold."
BART
"That's obvious. Practically no one's been in there."
[Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"Let's move on!
We gotta get to the treasure before Shakhan gets
here."
[The group runs down the hallway to a door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on a bluish green-tinted room with two statues resembling the Nisan cathedral altar in front of a large door. Bart walks up to in front of the "male" statue.]
FEI
"This is... the same angel statue at the cathedral."
[Bart turns back to Fei.]
BART
"So this is the door that connects to the great royal treasure."
[Bart turns back to the door. Scene cut to behind Margie, who's looking at an angle. A trap door disappears into the floor and a strange machine with two small holes in it is lifted out of the floor in its place. Scene cut to behind Fei.]
BART
"It's time for the Fatima Jasper... to do its thing...
Oh yeah,
one of mine's closed."
MARGIE
"I'm here."
[Bart turns to Margie and nods. They both walk up to the machine and place an eye in front of a hole. Scene cut to shot from behind Elly on the side (previous angle). Light eminates from the holes and a beam under the holes flickers. A sound not unlike a telephone is heard. A resounding ding follows it. Scene cut to directly behind Bart and Margie. The machine descends into the ground. Camera pan back behind Fei and Elly The green tint fades to a normal shot. The statues and the door move off to both sides, revealing a smaller door. Scene cut to above and behind Fei.]
FEI
"The... Fatima Jasper."
[Bart nods.]
BART
"Yeah.
That punk, Shakhan, mistook that for the royal
pendant."
[Bart and Margie turn back to Fei and Elly.]
BART
"But that made it easier for us, so I kept my mouth shut."
FEI
"What's up ahead...?"
MARGIE
"Up ahead will be the central core of the fortress."
[Margie pauses.]
MARGIE
"It's been said that if we shine that mysterious light across our
eyes,
the fortress will rise to the surface.
They say this was built
before the country of Aveh was founded.
So, you ready to go?"
[The group goes in the door and navigates to another. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a red-tinted room. Camera at far end of chamber as Fei and his friends walk in. They walk to the stairs in between railings and look towards the bottom.]
BART
"There sure are a lot of gauges and meters in here."
[Scene cut to the wall, revealing what appears to be a control room. Camera pan back to the left to the group. Scene cut back to shot from in front of the group. Margie turns to Bart.]
MARGIE
"I wonder which is more impressive? The pilot room on your ship or
the
one in here?"
[Bart turns to Margie.]
BART
"My ship of course..."
[Bart turns back, then folds his arms and looks down.]
BART
"Uhh, well... since they are our ancestors, I guess this one's
better."
[Bart turns to Margie.]
BART
"And you, quit asking mean questions like that.
Anyway, it's not
called a pilot room. It's the bridge, got it?"
MARGIE
"Does it really matter?"
[The group goes to the control panel. Bart looks at it. Camera pan to behind Fei and Elly on the side.]
BART
"... Not moving."
ELLY
"I think it's locked."
[Bart folds his arms and looks down.]
BART
"Hmm..."
MARGIE
"Want to go check out the great treasure first?"
BART
"Hmmm...
From the looks of it, Shakhan hasn't found the great
treasure either."
FEI
"Yeah...
When we were leaving Nisan, Bart and them said they've
never been here.
Well, first of all let's go locate the great treasure."
[Bart turns around, still looking down with his arms folded.]
BART
"Yeah...
I know for sure that the great treasure is somewhere
inside the
mausoleum. I can't pinpoint the location though.
So, let's go
find it, then we can decide what to do next."
[The group leaves the room and climbs to a much darker area with a green tint. They explore the energy block and find several passageways. After trying several, in the NE passageway they find a side door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a small room with another machine similar to the one used to open the main door. Bart examines it. Camera pan to behind Margie.]
BART
"There's another Jasper lock..."
MARGIE
"Let's try it out."
[Bart nods. The two have their eyes scanned like before. The same noises are heard and a shudder is felt. The group leaves and enters the main circular chamber in the area. They go to a very large entrance nearby. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in an adjoining large room. Camera behind Fei's group. Pan up to reveal the shadow of a Gear. Pause several seconds. Scene cut to in front of the side of Elly.]
ELLY
"For being in storage for so long, this thing's in great
condition!"
FEI
"... It kinda looks a lot like Bart's Gear."
BART
"Huh? Oh yeah... Now that you mention it...
Well, if you trace my
Brigandier's history, it was a Gear originally made in Aveh, that I
customized.
It wouldn't surprise me if there was some connection."
[Bart looks at the others then turns back to the door.]
BART
"Yeah well... Looks like there's no power drawn here except for the
emergency lights."
[Scene cut to behind the group at a distance.]
FEI
"This Gear too... No power in the lights."
[Fei pauses.]
FEI
"The drive unit's been sealed..."
BART
"Hmm. The control panels down there didn't do much...
Meaning
there's probably something around here."
[The group walks up to under the Gear. An inscription is there.]
BART
"...?"
[Bart walks up to the inscription. Margie walks off to the side from the group.]
BART
"Something's written here."
[Bart shakes his head. Fade music.]
BART
"Does anyone have a light?"
[Bart takes something from Fei and a flashlight beam shines onto the wall.]
BART
"This... There's an inscription.
It's in old Fatima. ...... It's
my ancestors'."
MARGIE
"What does it say?"
BART
"Peace to all those who come here. Fearing great calamity, we sealed
this legacy, entrusting its fate to you."
[Begin music: "The Treasure that Cannot be Stolen"]
[Scene cut to the Gear's head. Scene cut to a distance shot from the Gear's front side. A light turns on revealing the Gear better. It is red. Scene fade. Scene cut to the circular area outside looking up. Light turns on. Scene fade. Scene opens in front of the control panel, still red-tinted. The room lights up normally. Scene fade. Scene opens on side shot of the control panel. Camera pan to the left a couple feet. Scene change.]
[Scene opens at the ceiling of the Gear's room. Pan down slowly to the Gear. The group has ascended a scaffolding and are looking at it from level with its head. Scene cut to behind Fei on the side.]
BART
"All right, this should work."
[Margie turns to Bart.]
MARGIE
"Now, how am I going to get this out?"
[Bart turns to Margie.]
BART
"Yeah."
FEI
"You said it would appear above if it read the eyes.
You think you
can move this building?"

[Bart turns back to the Gear.]

"Father, looks like we're gonna have to move this.
Sorry, but I'll
have to borrow it."
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in on front side of the Gear's head. Scene fade. Fade music.]
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong"]
[Scene opens above the gantry in front of the Gear. The group leaves. The whole area is now lighted. The group goes back to the control room. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the control room. The tool guy from Nisan is standing in the middle of the room. The group walks up to him.]
TOOL GUY
Bartholomew!
FEI
"Hey aren't you... the tool guy!?"
BART
"You're OK."
TOOL GUY
Yes, my wife and I escaped together.
BART
"So, what're you doing here!?"
TOOL GUY
Yeah well, when I returned to town, I heard you were deep in the
mausoleum...
I thought to myself... 'Something's going on!'.
I couldn't
just stand there... so I came here.
BART
"It's dangerous, you better go back."
TOOL GUY
Oh no, I've come this far, I'm not going back!
I'm gonna stay
and help you.
[The tool guy walks off to the side. Bart gets supplies from him.]
TOOL GUY
Hang in there Bartholomew! The same for all of you!
[The group goes to the control panel. Bart takes the lead again. Camera pan to in front of Bart on the side.]
BART
"Well then... Let's do it!"
[Stop music.]
[Begin music: "Flight"]
[Bart hops into the nearby pilot's seat and turns towards the controls. Scene cut to the far end of the control room. Camera pan back past the group. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the mausoleum area where the civilians were, looking out at the caskets. Camera pan out towards the center and some red-tinted windows. Camera pan in close to the left window. Scene cut to the circular structure inside the window. It begins to rotate. A shudder begins. The rotation picks up. Electricity crackles from under the rotating apparatus. The rotating structure reaches a breakneck speed. Scene fade.]
[Scene opens in front of Bart. Black flash to behind Fei and Margie. The room begins to tremble.]
BART
"All right. I know I can do it!"
[Scene fade.]
[Scene opens on a plain with some scattered trees on it. The ground begins to shake. Scene cut to a desert basin, closeup. White smoke is eminating from behind it. Scene cut to distance shot of the basin. The smoke is still rising. Something begins to rise out of the ground behind the basin. Camera rotate around the rising object. Scene cut to sky. Pan back to reveal a bluish flying-saucer shaped apparatus with a strange hole in the side directly pointing towards camera. Scene cut to a distance shot to reveal a bag-shaped area under the "flying saucer." The "UFO" rises a few feet above the ground and stops. Scene cut to above the "UFO".]
BART
"We've surfaced!
Next, open the sky dome."
[Scene cut to in front and underneath the strange hole. A power boosting sound is heard. Fade music.]
BART
"... Huh?"
[The sound increases.]
BART
"What?"
[The sound increases in pitch.]
FEI
"What's up?"
BART
"Huh? No, it's already moving."
ELLY
"You moved it?"
BART
"No.
That's not why."
[Scene cut to in front of the hole. A sucking sound is heard and a circular flash is seen. Camera pan back away from the "UFO" as the hole lights up.]
BART
"No doubt... it's something... I accidentally pushed."
[A hot white spherical shot is fired from the "UFO" past camera. The entire screen becomes warped and colored, then returns to normal. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the control panel at the upper left. The display shows sky now. Camera pan down to reveal Bart on the other side of the panels from where he started. Fei and Elly stand in the foreground.]
BART
"..........."
[Bart pauses.]
BART
"Yesss! This is the way!!"
[Camera pan out to behind Bart. He turns towards camera.]
EVERYONE ELSE
"Oh REALLY!?"
[Begin music: "The Sky, The Clouds, and You"]
[Scene cut to behind Fei. Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"Wha? What're you talking about?"
FEI
"Quit foolin'! What the heck did you just press!?"
[Bart turns around, to the side, and back towards the panel.]
BART
"... Ohhh... Well, I wouldn't say it was a complete success...
but
it'll do for now."
ELLY
"A really bright light just shot out.
... Did you just do
something you shouldn't have done?"
[Bart turns to Elly.]
BART
"Don't worry! I've never fouled things up yet, have I?
Well, have
I!?"
[Bart turns to the panel, back to the side and back to the panel.]
BART
"How 'bout... Ladies and gentlemen, behold!"
[Camera pan up to the display. A large cylinder-shaped structure is in the distance on screen behind a green circular area that is displayed.]
BART
"Tis that not Babel Tower... over yonder?"
[Scene cut to behind Fei. Bart turns to Elly.]
BART
"Well? Isn't it way coooool!?
It floats from the Fatima
Jasper...
I call it Ft. Jasper, and you'll be able to see it from far
off.
I'm sure that last beam cannon could reach it!"
[Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"Well, I guess I wanted to show you all its greatness.
Have you
ever seen such a cannon? And don't mix it up with Vanderkaum's pea-shooter. This
one's many
times more powerful and many times more refined. After all, that's
why my ancestors used it for
generations to guard the treasure. Yeah, this is
the real thing. And don't you
forget it. Now as I was saying, I haven't
fouled up yet."
[Bart stops.]
BART
"So, let's go get this treasure and go home!
But first, we have to
open that door in the dome!
I don't think the switch on this control panel
will do it though."
[Bart turns to the side behind Elly.]
BART
"Over there!"
[Bart walks casually off screen past Elly. Everyone turns to his direction.]
EVERYONE ELSE

[Fade music.]
FEI
(Didn't you say you hit the wrong button earlier?)
BART
"Hey, they all look alike. Ah well, let's start hitting some
buttons."
FEI
"Whoa whoa! Is that safe!?"
[Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the sky dome in the circular area next to the Gear room. The top opens and slides back, letting daylight in. Scene cut to underneath the sky dome looking up from the ground as it continues to open. The doors stop sliding with a clink. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the control room. Camera behind Margie on the side.]
BART
"Alright, let's hurry up and get the treasure outside."
VOICE
Well done, Prince Bartholomew.
Thank you for unlocking the
seal.
[Bart turns towards the opposite panels.]
BART
"That voice, Shakhan!"
[Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Stage of Death"]
[Scene opens on the sky dome. Three Etone Gears fly in through the opening. Then two Aveh Gears. Scene cut to full shot of the room as they land. Scene cut to under the dome as another Etone Gear lands. Scene cut to the room again as the Gears split off the center circle. Scene cut to floor level as a strange Gear with a spiky-orb shaped base lands on the center. Scene cut to in front of the side of the Gear at a distance. Camera rotate around the Gear partially. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the control room. Camera above and behind Fei's side at a long distance. Bart shouts into the intercom.]
BART
"Damn you! This was all a setup!?"
SHAKHAN
"Of course."
[Scene cut to behind the group at a long distance.]
SHAKHAN
"You don't really believe that the door would open up for just
anyone?
I simply leaked the information and merely awaited for your
arrival."
BART
"Crap, so that's why I haven't noticed your stench for a while!"
SHAKHAN
"Knowing your impulsive nature, I knew you would come...
But I
never thought you'd go so far as breaking the seal for me."
[Scene cut to above Bart on the front side.]
BART
"Son of a... Makin' a fool outta me!"
SHAKHAN
"My soldiers have already secured this area.
If you don't like
it, come here and get some!
Hah hah hah!"
[The group leaves. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the adjoining hallway. As the group runs towards the elevator they run smack dab into some Aveh guards.]

[Scene opens on the hallway. The group heads back to the energy block and up the elevator and out. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the No. 2 Elevator Block. As the group gets out more guards run up to them.]

[Scene re-opens on the hallway. The group heads for the energy block. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the energy block hallway. As the group runs in, more guards show up.]

[Scene re-opens on the hallway. The group continues on and finds more guards.]

[The group gets to the NE corridor door and goes in. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the NE corridor. They run a few feet when more guards charge them. (You think they'd get the hint after 9999 losses. :P)]
[Battle: Fei/Bart/Elly (Margie) vs. Shakhan Guard x4/Shakhan Monk x2]
[Scene re-opens behind Fei's group. Three guards run up in front of him, and they turn around to see three more come up behind them!]
BART
"One after the other... Don't these guys ever give up?"
SHAKHAN
"Most impressive, Prince Bartholomew. But you'll go no
further."
[The group turns around. Two more guards run in. Shakhan follows them, walking. Camera pan up towards Shakhan.]
BART
"The central area's gone. What can you do now?
How about killing
yourself honorably?
What a fitting death for a clergyman."
SHAKHAN
"There's much more to the 'Ethos' than you would know.
We're
not a single unit. We each have an agenda.
We have no need to admit defeat
just because the central area's gone. I have my own motives.
And it is for
them, that I used Aveh and Gebler. Now, the treasure's mine. I suggest you
retreat now."
[The soldiers in front of Shakhan advance a step.]
BART
"... Crap!"
[The soldiers converge on the group and surround them, but Margie starts moving a split second beforehand.]
BART
"Margie!"
[Scene cut to behind Shakhan as Margie runs past everybody. Shakhan turns around.]
SHAKHAN
"After her!"
[The two guards flanking Shakhan run after Margie.]
SHAKHAN
"Hmph... You're actually trying to protect the Omnigear?
What
do you think one little girl can do?
As they say, out of the frying pan and
into the fire... idiot!"
[Scene cut to behind Fei's group. Shakhan turns back to them.]
SHAKHAN
"I'm going to take care of this once and for all!
That
detestable girl has made a fool of me for the last time. I'll send her
and
everything with her to the depths of hell."
BART
"Dammit... Get the hell outta my way!"
[Scene cut to a short distance behind the group.]
VOICE
You've gone far enough.
[The center soldier on the back side of the group turns around.]
SOLDIER
!
[The soldier moves in front of the one on the right. Everyone turns around. Scene cut immediately to the entrance. Sigurd and Citan have walked in! Scene cut to in front of Fei.]
BART
"Sig! What're you doin' here!?"
ELLY
"Citan!"
[Scene cut to in front of Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"I left Maison in charge of the capital.
I was worried about you
so I returned here."
[Sigurd and Citan begin to walk towards the group. Scene cut to behind and above Sigurd and Citan as the soldiers back up towards Shakhan, freeing the trio. The trio turns back towards Shakhan.]
SIGURD
"Shakhan,
it's only a matter of time until Bledavik returns to
us.
At this point, you have nowhere to go."
[Scene cut to closer to Shakhan.]
SHAKHAN
"Errrgh... It's not over yet!
I've still got Margie.
For
now, she'll once again be my hostage
until I get that Omnigear."
[Shakhan and the soldiers run towards the back doors. Scene cut to behind Sigurd.]
BART
"Wait!"
[Fei, Bart and Elly run after them. Scene cut to the end of the hallway facing at an angle towards the sky dome door. A tremor is heard. It repeats as Fei, Bart and Elly run up to the door. Bart tries to open the door but it doesn't budge. The tremor keeps repeating. Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"Damn, it won't open! It's locked on the inside."
[Bart runs to the other side of the hallway. Scene cut to behind Elly on the side at a distance as Bart runs to the opposite door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the Jasper lock room. Camera behind Bart as Fei and Elly walk in and walk to the side. The tremors continue.]
BART
"Argh! I only have one Fatima Jasper!"
[Sigurd enters.]
SIGURD
"Relax, young master!"
[Bart turns around.]
BART
"Sig... What should I do!?"
[Sigurd walks up to Bart.]
SIGURD
"Pass the light through your good eye! I'll do the other half!"
BART
"... What're you?"
SIGURD
"Just do it!"
[Camera pan to an angle as Bart and Sigurd turn around have their eyes scanned. The noises from before occur again.]
BART
"Yes! It's unlocked."
[Bart turns to Sigurd.]
BART
"? Sig...! How did YOUR eye work!?"
[Sigurd walks back to the door and turns to the others.]
SIGURD
"We're running out of time! We must return to Marguerite at
once!"
[Bart turns to Sigurd as he walks out the door.]
BART
"...?"
[The group leaves the room. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the hallway. Citan and Sigurd are standing at the entrance to the Gear's area.]
CITAN
"Let us hurry!"
SIGURD
"Come, we must go to Marguerite!"
[The group walks in the door. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in the circular area. The group walks in and turns towards the entrance to the Gear room.]
BART
"Margie! Where are you?"
[Scene cut to the middle of the room. An Aveh Gear, two Etone Gears and a host of Shakhan's guards are standing watch. The strange spiked-orb Gear is hovering in the center of the room. The Aveh Gear walks up to the strange Gear and then walks down the path towards the Gear room. Scene cut to in front of the soldiers and Shakhan next to the path at a distance. The Aveh Gear in front of them stops.]
SHAKHAN
"Argh! What's taking so long?"
GEAR SOLDIER
But... It's still an Omnigear...
SHAKHAN
"Imbeciles! She's just a child! What can she do!?
Hurry and get
her!"
[Scene cut to behind Shakhan's group at a distance. The Aveh Gear walks towards the Gear room. Scene cut to behind Fei's group at a very long distance as the Gear continues to walk and enters the Gear room. A different sounding tremor is felt. Fade music. An explosion and black smoke flies out of the room.]
[Begin music: "Fuse"]
[Camera pan back to above Fei's group.]
BART
"Margie... In there...!"
FEI
"Anyway, let's go!"
[The group runs into the Gear room. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in front of the Gear room. Camera pan up to reveal the Gear. It shifts slightly. Camera pan back down to behind Fei's group.]
BART
"Margie!? Is that you... moving it?"
[Gear fire is shot towards the group from behind. They run to the right side of the room and a higher level. They turn back towards the door. Scene cut to behind Bart to reveal that Shakhan and his guards have entered the room. Scene cut to in front of Elly.]
BART
"... Crap!"
[Bart runs up the stairs. Scene cut to the top of the scaffolding stairs as Bart runs up them. Scene cut to the side of the Omnigear as Bart runs out to beside it and turns to the Omnigear. He jumps onto the Omnigear's hand. Scene fade.]
[Scene opens in the Gear's cockpit. Margie is in the pilot seat. Bart walks in in front of her and walks around to the side.]
BART
"You okay!?"
[A pause.]
MARGIE
"My leg... got shot. Heh... looks like I'm causing you trouble
again."
BART
"Stupid! Why'd you put yourself in danger like that!?"
MARGIE
"I... it wasn't much, I just thought this is the least I could do
for you."
[Bart shakes his head.]
BART
"... Dumb...
Stupid! You're the biggest fool!"
MARGIE
"... heh, heh."
[A pause.]
BART
"... Can you move?"
MARGIE
"Uh huh... I guess."
[Scene cut to the Gear room doorway. An Etone Gear lumbers in and stops in the doorway. Scene cut to the left higher side of the room by the Etone Gear where Shakhan and some soldiers are standing. Shakhan is facing the Etone Gear.]
SHAKHAN
"Minor damage can be repaired.
Aim for the cockpit!"
[Scene cut to behind the Omnigear's side looking out at the Etone Gear.]
[Scene cut to the cockpit behind Margie. Bart turns and looks out at the Etone Gear.]
BART
"Dammit!"
[Bart stops.]
BART
"It's too dangerous to go outside now. Can you hold on?"
MARGIE
"Don't worry about me."
BART
"... Damn!"
[Scene cut to the opposite front side of the Etone Gear. The staff it holds begins to rotate around it.]
[Scene cut to the cockpit. Margie has gotten behind the pilot's seat. Bart walks into the seat and sits down in it. He looks around to both sides then back to the front.]
BART
"Wha, what the!? There's no control stick!
How am I gonna move
this?"
[A voice comes over the intercom.]
INTERCOM
"Are you okay, young master?"
BART
"... Sig!? Ya know how to operate this thing?"
SIGURD
"... What do you mean!?"
BART
"There are no controls! What am I gonna do?"
[Scene cut to in front of the Etone's Gear's side. The staff is still rotating. The staff stops and flies in front of the Gear, pointed towards the Omnigear. All of a sudden, a white hot light pierces from the Gear's chest. Scene cut to in front of the Omnigear and pan in. Scene cut to behind Margie in the cockpit as the light hits the Gear. Fade to white.]
BART
"Uuuaaaaahh!"
[Scene fade in on the Omnigear's front side. It stands up while the light continues to hit it. It puts its hands on its head. Scene cut to behind the Etone Gear. Shakhan is looking towards the Omnigear.]
SHAKHAN
"Impudent little..."
[Scene cut to in front of Bart in the cockpit.]
BART
"H, how!? How'd it move!?"
INTERCOM
"I got it! Young one, you must think!"
BART
"That voice... Citan!?"
[Scene cut to behind the Omnigear on the side of the room behind Fei, Elly, Citan and Sigurd, who have come in. The Etone Gear's staff is rotating again.]
CITAN
"Apparently, the Omnigear does not function by mechanical controls,
but mental ones.
Remember how Elly and the Omnigear in Shevat responded?"
[Scene cut to the cockpit.]
BART
"... But..."
[Scene cut to behind Fei's group again.]
CITAN
"Margie probably moved it through the same means.
Young one, try
and envision the Gear moving.
Then the Gear should react to the image in your
head."
[Scene cut to the cockpit.]
BART
"Now that I know...
... here goes!"
[Scene cut to in front of the Omnigear. It gets up quickly and its wingspan unfolds behind it.]
[Scene cut to in front of the Etone Gear on the side. It backs up.]
[Scene cut to above Shakhan's side at a short distance.]
SHAKHAN
"Damn you, boy!"
[Shakhan and his soldiers run off.]
[Scene cut to behind Fei's group as Shakhan and his soldiers exit.]
FEI
"Let's go!"
ELLY
"Yes!"
[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]
[Fei and Elly run towards the door. Scene cut to behind the Gear as its boosters flare up and it flies out the door.]
[Battle: Weltall/Andvari/Vierge vs. Neo Etone x2]
[Scene opens in front of the strange Gear in the circular chamber on the front side.]
SHAKHAN
"I almost had it!"
[The Gear, which is Shakhan's, hovers to the right. Scene cut to in the cockpit of the Omnigear, Andvari, behind Margie and Bart at a short distance as Shakhan's Gear hovers into sight.]
BART
"Hey! You're not gettin' away!"
[Shakhan's Gear lifts up. Scene cut to the sky dome as Shakhan's Gear flies out of it. Scene cut to the side of the cockpit as Bart turns to the side. Margie is sitting down and looking down in the rear of the cockpit.]
BART
"That punk's not goin' anywhere!"
CITAN
"Young one, please wait! Is Margie going to be all right?"
BART
"Uh... oh yeah!"
[Bart stands up on the seat and turns to Margie. Fade music.]
BART
"Hey, Margie... you OK? Margie! Margie, wake up!!"
[No response.]
BART
"Margie!!"
[Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "Shattering Egg of Dreams"]
[Scene opens behind the side of the Omnigear's head. Pan down to the group. Margie is there, too and standing in the center.]
CITAN
"Fortunately, the bullet passed through. I will apply some first
aid.
Later, when we return to the city, we should have it looked over
thoroughly."
BART
"Good... I'm glad.
When she passed out I thought the worst."
MARGIE
"... Bart."
BART
"... How ya feelin'?"
MARGIE
"... Okay.
You know, when I passed out, I still heard your
voice.
For some strange reason... your cries reached me.
That's why I
thought I had to help you..."
[Bart looks down.]
BART
"... Oh.
We were fighting together, weren't we? You protected
me."
[Bart looks up and turns to Andvari.]
BART
"But, is this really the legendary Gear in the scroll of
our
founding nation?"
[Everyone turns to Andvari.]
BART
"The way it handles, it feels just like my Brigandier...
...
Except maybe it's a little more powerful."
CITAN
"Perhaps...
The controls, output and weapons are similar and
adjust to the strength of the pilot's mental waves."
[Everyone but Margie turns to Citan.]
CITAN
"If so, the pilot must be skilled at mentally merging with the Gear
to gain its
true power. Marguerite was able to move the Gear through her
strong desire to help you.
It was her strength that moved it."
BART
"Meaning, I'd have to get used to it?"
CITAN
"That would be the case."
BART
"Ergh. I already went through a lot of trouble getting it..."
CITAN
"Do not be discouraged.
We now know that these Omnigears were
used in the battle between the land and Solaris.
Even now, the 'Ethos' and
Solaris are seeking the Omnigears.
At least, this one did not fall into their
hands.
Eventually, you will be able to unleash its power.
Let us hope you
use it for the right reasons."
[Everyone turns back towards the Gear. Scene cut to behind Bart. Pan up to Andvari's head. Scene fade. Fade music.]
