Chapter 41: Gate 1 -Margie-
Compiled by
[Scene opens in the Nisan house that Fei's group used before (see Chapter 14). Fei, Bart, Elly, Sigurd, Citan and Billy are in the bedroom with Margie and Agnes. Margie is sitting on a bed near the doorway. Camera at the corner looking out towards the doorway. Agnes is next to Margie's bed. Everyone faces Margie.]
BART
"No activities for you. You'll have to settle down for awhile."
MARGIE
"What do you mean, once in awhile?"
BART
"Don't get so excited. Ha ha ha ha!"
MARGIE
"Meanie!"
[A pirate walks in from the door's entrance and turns towards the group.]
PIRATE
Sigurd!
[Everyone turns to the pirate. Sigurd walks down to him. The pirate whispers something to Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"... Alright.
Please tell Maison we'll be here a while
longer."
PIRATE
Got it!
[The pirate leaves. Sigurd returns to his original spot.]
SIGURD
"We've heard from our units in Bledavik.
Things are unfolding
smoothly. They have entered the castle.
They are investigating Shakhan's
private room on the top floor of the castle.
One more thing, Yggdrasil is on
station nearby and has picked up several Gears on radar."
BART
"Shakhan!"
SIGURD
"Most certainly.
But those Gears went to the capital then turned
and came back toward us."
[Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
"He saw things weren't looking too good and ran away."
BART
"Yeah. But it sounds like he's coming back here."
FEI
"What's here...?"
[Fei turns back to Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"About that, the info from the capital...
Isn't there a -Gate-
in the area?"
FEI
"A -Gate-?"
CITAN
"Where?"
SIGURD
"Directly west of Nisan."
[Sigurd stops.]
SIGURD
"Young master, do you know the big cave over there?"
BART
"Cave... On the western continent? It's near the ocean.
If I
remember, it's big enough for a Gear to walk into."
SIGURD
"Yes, there.
They found evidence that there is some large
building inside that cave."
FEI
"Shakhan is heading for there..."
[Fei turns to Bart.]
FEI
"What's he doing?"
[Bart turns to Fei.]
BART
"I guess we'll have to go and see!"
FEI
"Okay!"
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong"]
[Everyone turns back to Sigurd. Sigurd turns towards Agnes.]
SIGURD
"I'll wait here for info from the capital."
CITAN
"A gate!
Of course I would like to actually see it... but this
time I will pass.
There are two more left... And besides...
Just in case
things do not go well, it might be better if we stay here and protect
Marguerite."
BART
"Got it. I leave the rest to you!"
[Fei, Elly and Bart group up. Fei wanders around talking.]
SIGURD
"The cave Shakhan is heading for is directly west of Nisan.
It's
possible the remainder of his forces are gathering there."
BILLY
"The 'Ethos' was controlling two of the three gates!"
[Billy stops.]
BILLY
"Will you take me along too?"
[Alright!]
[Billy replaces Elly in the lineup.]
AGNES
"Marguerite and Bartholomew...
I'm so happy to see you two
getting along so well."
[Margie stands up and turns to Agnes.]
MARGIE
"Sister, please stop! You're embarrassing me again."
AGNES
"It's not embarrassing.
Since long ago, the Nisan Mother and King
of Aveh have always..."
MARGIE
"Hey! Enough about this...
Hey...! Ouch ouch ouch!"
[Margie sits back down and looks down.]
BART
"Just sit still like I said."
MARGIE
"Ohhhhh! You're a meanie!"
[The group leaves. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]
[Scene opens in Nisan's town. The group leaves town. Scene fade. Stop music.]

[Begin music: "Emotions"]
[Scene opens outside Nisan. The group walks to the cave on the western side of Nisan. Then they get in their Gears and enter the Ignas' Gate Cave. Stop music. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "The Steel Giant"]
[Scene opens at the entrance of the cave. Camera pan up to reveal a flashing light in the floor and a passageway.]
BART
"What the!? That hole wasn't there last time."
[The Gears hover into the center of the entrance chamber. Scene cut to looking down the passageway. A Neo Etone Gear flies out of the back. Scene cut to behind the Gears as the Neo Etone Gear hovers up to closer to them. Scene cut to above and behind the Gears when the Neo Etone gets close. They walk to the passageway and assume fighting positions as the Neo Etone comes into range. Another one shows up on the other side of the Gears!]
FEI
"They're survivors from the last battle!"
[Battle: Weltall/Andvari/Renmazuo vs. Neo Etone x2]
[Scene re-opens minus the Neo Etones.]
FEI
"Those guys, it seemed like they were waiting for us."
BILLY
"Maybe they're trying to bait us."
BART
"Regardless, we gotta go on! It's going to be an eternal
embarrassment if
we let 'em get away!"
[The Gears move down the passageway to a door in the back. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a green vertical chamber. The door leads to a narrow bridge. Fade music. A very low hum is heard repeating itself.]
FEI
"This is... the gate generator!?"
[Scene cut to behind Andvari on the side. A green glowing cylinder barrier in the center of the room is flanked by three bridges. Camera pan up away from the Gears. Scene cut to in front of Andvari at a distance again. Scene cut to shot of the generator looking up from under the bridge. Camera rotate to the left one bridge. Scene fade/switch. Scene fade in above the gate generator. Pan down to in front of it. Scene cut to in front of Andvari.]
BART
"Punk...
Not only was he sitting on the Aveh throne, he also
controlled this."
[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]
[Scene cut to below the bridge looking up at the ceiling. Shakhan's Gear lowers from the ceiling and lands in front of the Gate generator!]
SHAKHAN
"Exactly."
[Scene cut to behind and above Fei's group at a short distance looking out at Shakhan's Gear.]
SHAKHAN
"To think you knew about the existence of the gate... very
interesting."
[Scene cut to under the bridge looking up at Shakhan's Gear again.]
SHAKHAN
"The gate which divided Solaris from the earth was under the
supervision of...
the 'Ethos'."
[Scene cut to side view from a distance. Rotate around the generator to behind the side of Shakhan's Gear at a long distance.]
SHAKHAN
"In the beginning, it was supervised without any true knowledge of
what it did.
However, over the years, the 'Ethos' did their own experiments
to reveal its true nature."
[Scene cut to above and behind Fei's group again.]
SHAKHAN
"They learned how to use it."
[Scene cut to above and behind Shakhan's Gear on the side.]
SHAKHAN
"For the sake of freeing ourselves from Solaris, we
discovered
a new way of using it!"
[Scene cut to below the bridge looking out at Shakhan's Gear again. Shakhan's Gear hovers up a few feet towards the others. Then it lifts up and extends a hose-shaped extension out of its back and attaches it to the generator. After a few seconds, Shakhan's Gear lights up with blue electrical waves. Scene cut to behind and above Fei's group.]
BART
"You! This was your original intention."
[Scene cut to behind and above Shakhan's Gear on the side.]
FEI
"He probably entered through this cavern!
He just wanted the energy
from the gate generator!"
[Scene cut to below Shakhan's Gear again. Purple sparks fly out of it. All of a sudden, all of the activity around Shakhan's Gear disappears. A power cut is heard. Scene cut to directly behind Shakahn's Gear's left arm looking through to Andvari.]
BILLY
"Don't you think something's wrong?"
[Scene cut to below Shakhan's Gear again.]
SHAKHAN
"This can't be!?
This is ridiculous!?
This thing should be
able to pull an adequate amount of energy from the gate!"
[Shakahn stops for a second.]
SHAKHAN
"There shouldn't have been any problems in the
design!
Why?"
[Scene cut to distance shot from behind the side of Shakhan's Gear, opposite angle.]
SHAKHAN
"Why doesn't it move?"
[Scene cut to above and behind Shakhan's Gear on the side.]
BART
"What, did you mess up?
If my father knew I was set up by a jerk
like this, he'd turn in his grave."
[Scene cut to underneath Shakahn's Gear again.]
SHAKAHN
"I didn't need this anyway!
I'll take you myself!"
[Scene cut to opposite side view of Shakahn's Gear at a long distance. Fade music.]
[A high-pitched sound is heard. The entire screen is lit up yellow.]
VOICE
Do you not desire the power?
[Scene fade to normal. Shakhan's Gear detaches from the generator and flies to the opposite bridge. It looks towards camera, bottom left. It then turns and floats towards the wall. It looks around the upper left portion of the back wall, then it flies towards camera and looks towards both angles, trying to locate the source of the voice, turning to the bottom right. A Gear shifting is heard.]
SHAKHAN
"Wha, Who!"
[Scene cut to black background. A sinister (and very familiar) Gear flies past camera at a lightning rate. Scene cut to in front of Shakahn's Gear on the side as Grahf's Gear drops in in front of the camera, facing the other way. It then folds its arms. Scene cut to in front of Andvari.]
BART
"Him again!?"
FEI
"How'd he get in here!?"
[Begin music: "Grahf, the Emperor of Darkness"]
[Scene cut to side view looking at Shakahn and Grahf's Gears from a long distance. Scene cut to behind the generator's post looking out at Grahf's Gear. Camera pan towards Grahf's Gear. Pinkish flame begins to eminate from behind it.]
GRAHF
"I am Grahf, the seeker of power. Doth thou desire the power?"
SHAKHAN
"Power? What kind of power!?
I have the power of the gate! As
long as I get this machine to move!!"
GRAHF
"Your powers are merely superficial. The tools in which you
produced
with your immature intellect... Now, do you think you can win?"
[Scene cut to behind Grahf's Gear on the left. Pan around behind Grahf's Gear to the right looking out at Shakahn's Gear.]
SHAKHAN
"What are you saying? Superficial power?"
GRAHF
"The meager efforts of you land dwellers are insignificant next to
the
true and only power."
[Scene cut to just below Grahf's Gear's head.]
GRAHF
"I shall endow you with my true powers!"
[Yellow flashes. Scene cut to the front left side of Grahf's Gear. Its right arm raises and begins to glow red with a yellow orb in the fist.]
GRAHF
"My fist is the divine breath!"
[Grahf's Gear's right arm raises and glows red again. It opens its fist, revealing the yellow orb.]
GRAHF
"Blossom, o fallen seed, and draw upon thy hidden powers!!"
[Scene cut to above and in front of Grahf's Gear on the side. It pulls its left arm back and extends the glowing right arm in a fist towards Shakahn's Gear.]
GRAHF
"Grant unto thee the power of the glorious 'Mother of
Destruction'!"
[A power sound is heard. Camera pan back quickly past Shakahn's Gear as the "laser beam" is obscured by the generator. Fade music.]
SHAKAHN
"Ghunnnuuuaaaaaahh..."
[Fade to white.]
[Begin music: "Knight of Fire"]
[----Battle mode----]
[Battle: Weltall/Andvari/Renmazuo vs. Shakhan]
[Scene fade to white.]
[----End battle mode----]
[Begin music: "Fuse"]
[Scene fade in underneath Shakahn's Gear. It keels forward and electricity sparkles as it begins breaking down. Electricity fizzles out of its midsection.]
SHAKAHN
"How... This can't be!"
[Scene cut to behind Fei's group. Scene cut to behind Renmazuo on the side. Camera pan up and away. Scene cut to above and behind Fei's group.]
BART
"Shakahn!!
12 years ago, if you weren't so hungry for power,
Margie would still have her family...
... and wouldn't have had to live out
in the desert!"
[Scene cut to under Shakahn's Gear.]
SHAKAHN
"What would you know, you throne born brat!?"
[Scene cut to above and behind Shakahn's Gear.]
BART
"Throne? You can have it!
A king's gotta carry the heaviest
responsibilities of all! It's a tough racket!
Something you'd never
understand, punk!!"
[Scene cut to above Shakan's Gear on the side. Rotate around the generator and pan back to behind the Gear on the side.]
SHAKAHN
"Uwwaaaaaaaahhh!!"
[Scene cut to under the generator, looking up at Shakahn's Gear on the side. Camera rotate around generator to under Shakahn's Gear on the side at a far distance. Scene cut to above and behind Shakahn's Gear as green bolts begin to sparkle from the generator's area.]
FEI
"The gate's on fire...!"
BILLY
"It's coming down. We must escape!!"
[Scene cut to above the side of Shakahn's Gear at a distance. Rotate around the generator to behind Shakahn's Gear on the side at a distance again. Scene fade.]
[Scene opens in the cavern outside of the generator room. The cavern is shuddering from the energy overload below. The group gets out of the cave. Scene fade. Fade music.]
[Scene opens over the ocean west of Nisan. Camera pan to the south and then turn back past Ft. Jasper and the cave at a distance to look at the ocean near the shore. A white light eminates from the ocean and a light beam shoots out of the light skyward. It crackles with black lightning and then the light becomes louder, as the entire area crackles with the black lightning. Then normal electrical bolts start to surround it and rotate around it faster and faster. The light explodes harshly onto the water's surface. Then, it is gone. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens in Castle Fatima's square. Many Aveh citizens are standing at the door to the castle looking towards it. Camera above and behind them. Lots of crowd noise is heard. Camera pan up and in to the balcony terrace to reveal Maison, Sigurd, Bart, Fei and Citan standing on it. Camera pan to the right and rotate around to in front of Citan's side. Bart turns around from the window. Fei and Citan turn to him.]
BART
"Fei, if anything, I'm your friend right?"
[Bart turns to Sigurd. Sigurd turns to Bart.]
BART
"Sig... you won't change no matter what I do, will you?"
[Maison turns to Bart.]
MAISON
"What is the matter, young master...?"
BART
"Nah... I guess I have to do what I was asked."
[Bart turns and walks up to the front of the balcony. Scene cut to in front of Bart. Fade crowd noise.]
BART
"My good people of Aveh...
This is Bartholomew Fatima the 19th
king of Aveh, son of Edbert Fatima IV the 18th king of Aveh.
First, one must
apologize for the trouble caused by one's unavoidably lengthy absence from the
palace.
One especially wants to give one's condolences to those who lost
family in the war with Kislev.
One will immediately call a truce with Kislev
and begin reparations to victims of both countries.
All citizens drafted as
soldiers will also be allowed to return home.
Let us work together towards
the rebuilding of Aveh!"
[The crowd cheers.]
BART
"... One also has another final but important message...
A
declaration from the will of Edbart IV who wished only for peace for his
kingdom, Aveh.
I Bartholomew Fatima, the 19th King of Aveh, do hereby
declare...
from this day forward I shall abandon the monarchy and create the
Republic of Aveh!"
[The crowd cheers and continues to repeat its cheers. Maison turns towars Bart.]
MAISON & SIGURD
!
[Scene cut to behind Bart. He turns around and walks in front of Fei and Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"Young master..."
MAISON
"What in Aveh are you doing...?"
[Bart looks down.]
BART
"This is my father's wish.
I am sorry. You both have worked so
hard for many long years to restore me to the throne.
Now I'm no longer in
line to be king, nor anything else for that matter, the two of you are free to
go."
MAISON
"What are you saying...?"
SIGURD
"Unbelievable."
[Bart and Maison turn to Sigurd.]
MAISON
"Master Sigurd?"
SIGURD
"Can't you hear the crowd outside?
They have chosen you as their
king. You're going to be very busy."
BART
"Sig..."
[Bart turns back towards the front of the balcony.]
SIGURD
"Won't you need some capable assistance?"
[Bart turns to Sigurd.]
BART
"Well... here goes nothing."
[Scene fade.]

[Begin music: "Bonds of Sea and Fire"]
[Scene opens on the second floor terrace of Fatima Castle. Bart walks out from the castle halls. Camera follow him as he walks to the other side of the castle and walks in a door there. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a room on the second floor of the castle. Maison is in there. Bart walks up to him. Maison turns to see him.]
MAISON
"Oh, young master! You still haven't rested yet?"
BART
"Old Maison, there is one thing I want to ask you."
MAISON
"What is it?"
BART
"Where was Sigurd born?"
MAISON
"Young master, that..."
BART
"He has blue eyes... It's the Fatima Jasper."
MAISON
"... Well... It was long ago.
When his Majesty and I were still
young...
Long before his Majesty knew my young master's mother.
His
Majesty was in love with a certain girl from a small religious sect east of
Aveh.
This sect was quite different from Nisan and the 'Ethos' but she was
very beautiful.
Then... she just disappeared. Later there were rumors of her
having a child."
BART
"She disappeared? Did father abandon her?"
MAISON
"As far as I know, it was the opposite. His Majesty was
abandoned."
BART
"Sig is from Aveh's eastern desert..."
MAISON
"Indeed. When he was 10, he was assigned to his Majesty King
Edbart, as a squire."
[Scene fade.]
[Scene opens outside Maison's room as Bart exits. Camera pan with Bart. He walks to the side of the castle opposite the main halls and finds Sigurd looking out over the courtyard from a terrace. Sigurd turns to see Bart.]
SIGURD
"Young master...?"
[Bart walks up to the edge of the terrace. Sigurd backs up a step to make room on the edge. Bart turns to Sigurd.]
BART
"Yeah, I can't sleep."
SIGURD
"Yes, so much has happened at once."
[A pause.]
BART
"Hey Sig... what was your mother like?"
SIGURD
"... She died when I was but a child, why?"
BART
"Do you have any memories of her?
What kind of person was
she?"
[Sigurd turns towards camera, looking at the courtyard.]
SIGURD
"Hmmm, well... she was very kind...
but when I was born it seems
the doctor told her she did not have long to live.
She lived in constant fear
of that.
As a result, even if she met someone she liked, her fear of death
was her drawback.
She worried that she could not be with me to the very
end..."
BART
"What about your father?"
SIGURD
"He isn't supposed to know that I was born.
However, even for
not knowing he still treated me like a son."
[Bart turns to Sigurd more directly.]
BART
"Why didn't you tell him you were his son?"
SIGURD
"If my mother hid that fact, there had to be a reason."
BART
"There is more to my father's will than what I declared today.
I
must share my inheritance with my brother.
He also said... 'You must split
you and your brother's share with the people.' "
[Sigurd turns to Bart.]
SIGURD
!
BART
"That had always bugged me up until now. I didn't know what he
meant.
That's all I wanted to say... Good night!"
[Bart walks away. Sigurd watches him go. Scene fade. Fade music.]

[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]
[Scene opens on the dining room in Fatima Castle. The usual suspects (what, I have to name them again? :P) are seated around the table with Sigurd and Bart. Maison stands behind Bart.]
BART
"Thanks to you, Aveh has been taken back from Shakhan and
Gebler.
Thank you.
Now, in order to free other lands from Gebler and
Solaris...
... we must destroy the other two gates and bring down
Solaris.
We've learned from Shakhan's notes that the gates form the points of
a triangle."
[Bart stops.]
BART
One point was the Great Mausoleum. Two others remain, but we only
know where one is.
[Camera pan in slightly closer towards Citan.]
CITAN
"Yes, under the 'Ethos' headquarters. However..."
[Camera pan back to original shot, a little more to the right, centering behind Billy.]
BILLY
"It wasn't there when we followed Stone under the 'Ethos'
headquarters.
If it really is there... it must be buried deep beneath the
earth..."
[Billy shakes his head. Camera pan to Rico from behind on the side.]
RICO
"How are we gonna destroy it then?"
[Camera pan back to original shot. Camera pan over to Chu-Chu.]
CHU-CHU
"By combining everyone's Gear power."
RICO
"What are we gonna do with everyone's Gear,
dig a giant hole in
the ground?"
CHU-CHU
"What's wrong with that?"
[Bart and Rico shake their heads. Camera pan back to original shot.]
SIGURD
"... it would take years."
[Camera pan towards Fei.]
FEI
"What if we used Shevat's cannon..."
[Camera pan back to behind Maria on the side.]
MARIA
"If that worked, we would have tried it already."
FEI
"... Oh..."
[Camera pan back to original shot. Camera pan in closer to Citan.]
CITAN
"So it must be something more powerful than Shevat's cannon."
[Camera pan over to Elly.]
ELLY
"And we don't have a Gebler battleship."
[Camera pan back to original shot. Camera pan closer to Fei.]
FEI
"Is there any weapon that powerful on earth?"
CITAN
"Gebler battleships and Shevat's cannon are the most powerful
weapons
ever produced by man..."
[Camera pan back to original shot. Camera pan over to Bart.]
BART
"... but... I seem to remember seeing something..."
SIGURD
"What?"
BART
"A weapon with firepower like those two... Yeah! I got it!
Ft.
Jasper! Her gun can take out a mountain! What about that?"
[Citan shakes his head. Camera pan over to Citan.]
BART
"Citan, what?"
CITAN
"However powerful the Jasper may be, how are we going to aim it at
the 'Ethos' H.Q.?
To damage something that deep underground we would have to
attack it from directly above.
But the Jasper gun is..."
[Camera pan to behind Sigurd on the side.]
SIGURD
"Yes, of course..."
[Camera pan to behind Rico on the side.]
RICO
"What, are you sayin' we should just move Ft. Jasper on top of
Babel?"
[Camera pan to behind Billy on the side.]
BILLY
"Now that you mention it, Babel does overlook their
headquarters.
If we shoot it from there it might just possibly be able to
reach that far underground."
[Camera pan to behind Sigurd on the side.]
SIGURD
"But how could we move Ft. Jasper?"
[Camera pan over to Elly.]
ELLY
"It's impossible. Something that heavy..."
FEI
!
[Camera pan to Fei.]
FEI
"Didn't the control room in Babel control a cannon or something?
I
think it moved the giant mirror outside."
BART
"Maria, do you know of anything like that?"
[Camera pan to behind Maria on the side.]
MARIA
"I've never heard anything about it but..."
[Camera pan to Fei.]
FEI
"But it might be there. Let's go check."
BART
"Alright..."
CITAN
!
[Camera pan over to Citan.]
CITAN
"Wait a moment...
A giant mirror and a giant cannon both from the
same ruins? There might just be something in this..."
BART
"Like what?"
CITAN
"Ah... I have solved the puzzle..."
SIGURD
"Puzzle, what puzzle?"
CITAN
"The Babel and Jasper ruins are from the same civilization.
One
far more advanced than our own... Do not the two structures seem similar to
you?
I believe they were both built with Gears and a powerful foe in
mind."
FEI
"Yeah, I noticed that. But what's it all mean?"
CITAN
"It means, the people who built the giant mirror at Babel
Tower...
... knew about the giant gun at Jasper!"
BART
"And...? What are you getting at?"
CITAN
"We can probably assume the mirror was built to reflect
something...
That something being a beam. A beam shot from the Jasper
gun!"
FEI
"Reflect? You mean that mirror can reflect a beam attack?"
CITAN
"Yes."
[Camera pan back to behind Rico on the side.]
RICO
"Long ago, Babel and Jasper must have been at war."
[Camera pan in to Citan.]
CITAN
"Not exactly.
The Babel mirror and Jasper gun were combined to
make one weapon."
[Camera pan to behind Rico on the side.]
RICO
"Whaddya mean?"
[Camera pan to Elly.]
ELLY
"But those things are so far apart, how could they be one
weapon?"
[Camera pan to Citan.]
CITAN
"Well, the gates may be far apart, but aren't they still one
device?"
ELLY
"Yes, I see what you mean but..."
[Camera pan to behind Billy on the side.]
BILLY
"What did they use that weapon for?"
CITAN
"That, I do not know."
[Camera pan to Bart.]
BART
"Whatever. The point is, how do we use the two weapons as one?"
[Camera pan to Citan.]
CITAN
"Aim the Jasper gun at the mirror and fire.
The mirror will
reflect the beam on the gate."
BART
!
[Camera pan to behind Maria on the side.]
MARIA
"Do you think it will work?"
CITAN
"Theoretically. It will require a few minor adjustments..."
[Camera pan to behind Sigurd on the side.]
SIGURD
"Adjusting the mirror is going to be rather difficult and
tedious."
CITAN
"If the two weapons are one, then it should not be too
difficult.
I hope..."
[Camera pan to behind Rico on the side.]
RICO
"It sounds dangerous.
I think it was meant to reflect shots back
at the enemy.
If you're wrong it'll come back and hit you."
CITAN
"Yes. That is why it is most difficult for the gun crew.
The
mirror must be hit precisely."
[Camera pan in closer to Citan.]
CITAN
"We will need to divide into two teams. One will fire the
gun...
While the other will adjust the angle of the mirror to ensure the beam
hits the 'Ethos' headquarters.
Since this was my idea, I will take the
dangerous part of adjusting the mirror."
[Camera pan to behind Sigurd on the side.]
SIGURD
