Chapter 43: Gate 3 -The Deep-

[Scene opens on the Yggdrasil bridge. Fei's group goes to Margie's room and switches Elly in for Bart, then, they return to the bridge and speak to Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"Shall we launch the Yggdrasil?"
[Go ahead!]
[Scene fade. Stop music.]

[Begin music: "Wings"]
[Scene opens outside Babel Tower. The Yggdrasil takes off for the Thames and docks there. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Thames, Man of the Sea"]
[Scene opens on the Thames' dock where the Yggdrasil has docked. Fei, Elly and Citan head for the Thames' bridge. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the bridge. The normal crew including Hans and the captain are there. Fei goes to Hans.]
HANS
"Since our work with the 'Ethos' has deep sixed we've lost our
'porpoise'!
Guess we'll just have to stick with wandering the seas and
salvaging.
Seems Thames will have to continue this haphazard lifestyle after
all."
[The group goes to the captain.]
CAPTAIN
"What's wrong? What do you need?
Point x1507, z1235? Hans, does
that sound familiar?"
[Hans turns to the captain.]
HANS
"It's Sargasso point."
[The captain turns to Hans.]
CAPTAIN
"What? The Sargasso?"
FEI
"Sargasso, what's that?"
[The captain turns to Fei.]
CAPTAIN
"It's a cave formed from microbes over many years.
It's
supposed to have hidden treasure but no one's ever returned from there.
The
story is that the cave itself is alive. Are you going to the Sargasso?"
FEI
"It looks like it."
CAPTAIN
"Your Gears can't dive that deep. If they did, you would not be
able to move.
Equip your underwater gear here. Then take your ship as far as
you can and dive in with your Gear.
I'll go wake those winos up, right
now."
FEI
"Really? It's okay with you? Thanks for always helping us out,
Captain."
CAPTAIN
"Don't mention it."
[Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in on the bridge behind the captain on the side, a while later.]
CAPTAIN
"It looks like they're done."
FEI
"That was fast."
[The captain turns to the side.]
CAPTAIN
"Of course. We're..."
FEI
"Men, of the sea, right?"
[The captain turns to Fei.]
CAPTAIN
"Blimey. I think he's got it. Take care then."
FEI
"Yeah."
CAPTAIN
"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you how to operate them
underwater.
It's easy. You can jump in water without your feet touching the
ground. Keep jumping to build up speed.
You can swim pretty well in a Gear,
but there may be places you can't get past if you don't do it well."
FEI
"Got it. Thanks."
CAPTAIN
"No need for thanks.
Maybe you can buy something from our Gear
shop. Looks like there be some new booty to sell."
[The group leaves, buys parts at the Thames' Gear Shop and then returns to the Yggdrasil. Scene change.]
[Begin music: "Leftovers of the Dreams of the Strong" - skip intro]
[Scene opens outside the Yggdrasil bridge. The group goes into the bridge. Scene change.]
[Scene opens on the bridge. Fei and Co. go to Sigurd.]
SIGURD
"Ready to go to Sargasso?"
[Sure!]
[Scene fade. Stop music.]

[Begin music: "Emotions"]
[Scene opens on the Yggdrasil flying over the SE ocean. Camera rotate around the Yggdrasil as it turns from northeast to west. Pan with it as it dives. Scene fade. Fade music.]
[Scene opens underwater. Weltall, Vierge and Heimdal take off and progress through an underwater cavern to the back of it and emerge in a dry cavern in the back with a door in it. Scene change.]
[Scene opens in a Generator room like the first one. Camera in front of Weltall on the side standing in front of the entrance doorway.]
FEI
"Is this, the 3rd gate............?"
[Begin music: "June Mermaid"]
[Camera pan back to behind the generator to reveal a white, teal-winged Gear with an orange front hovering in front of it.]
FEI
"Who are you?"
[Camera rotate around the Gear to the front. The green-haired girl from Zeboim (see Chapter 34) is piloting it. She is now clothed, and speaks to them.]
GIRL
I will... kill you.
[A brown, nasty-looking Gear with a huge club drops in behind the side of the white Gear, over by the Generator. Camera pan to the left and closer in to the nasty Gear.]
MYSTERIOUS GEAR
"How do you do? I am a Rattan, one of the followers of
Krelian.
Please excuse me, I'd like to show you my face but as a result of
the human-machine fusion..."
ELLY
"A follower of Krelian!? Not Ramsus or the Elements!?"
RATTAN
"Our current task is totally about inspection of the
evidence.
It'll ruin everything if someone as dead to the world as he
appeared here.
A person who's calm and cool like myself would be perfect for
the job.
Oh, but don't worry. I'll just be inspecting here. Emeralda here,
will take care of you."
[Camera pan to in front of Emeralda's Gear on the side.]
EMERALDA
"......Kill... you."
[Battle: Weltall/Vierge/Heimdal vs. Crescens]
[Scene opens in front of the Generator. Crescens (Emeralda's Gear) has its wings drooped. The generator begins to rumble and shake. Pan in closer to Crescens on the front side.]
EMERALDA
"Ki......m...? Ah, ah-a-a, I..."
[Crescens wings fly up above her and a constant motor sound begins. The Rattan now has a clear view.]
RATTAN
"... I see... Reckless... now that...
You should view it as a
release of... memory, or maybe a recording.
It turned out just as Krelian
said...
It is a manifestation of the imprinting. At any rate, it is proven.
With that, excuse me.
I must report the results. Oh yes, go ahead and take
the girl.
Use her anyway you like. After all, she is your 'daughter'..."
[The Rattan walks off, shaking the floor as he leaves. Pan to the right towards Crescens as it turns to face the generator. The screen lights up white as the rotating occurs.]
EMERALDA
Ah, a aha-a-a-a-a!!
[Fade to white slowly. Stop music. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens over the ocean. A light beam shoots out of the water, then disappears. Then explosions appear on the surface. Scene cut to looking down from above as a blast is seen going out in all directions. Scene cut back to original shot as the explosion blasts out again. Pan quickly with the blast wave to the left until it disappears. Particles fly. Scene cut back to the original shot as another explosion in the water erupts. The explosion subsides as the Yggdrasil flies over the scene towards the far left and rotates around where the blast was. The Yggdrasil hits the water and flies off past camera's upper left. The splash from the "touchdown" subsides. Scene fade.]

[Scene opens in the Yggdrasil Gun Room. Emeralda is there, along with Fei, Citan and Elly. Camera behind Citan. Emeralda looks around at Citan, then the back wall, then back to Fei, jumping every time she turns.]
EMERALDA
Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim!
[Emeralda nods excitedly twice.]
FEI
"...... Let's... see..."
[Fei stops.]
FEI
"What the hell is it saying?"
[Elly looks down and folds her arms.]
ELLY
"..."
[Elly turns towards Emeralda more directly, still folding her arms and looking down.]
ELLY
"Does Fei resemble someone you know?"
[Emeralda turns to Elly.]
EMERALDA
What do you mean by 'resemble'? Kim is Kim?
ELLY
"Kim? The person resembling Fei, right?
Who is he? Is he the one
who created you?"
EMERALDA
What do you mean by 'creating me'? Kim is Kim! Don't you see?
[Emeralda turns back to Fei and looks down slightly.]
EMERALDA
Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! Kim! You're really here! I thought I was
dreaming. The person in my dream.
Yes, Kim! I was dreaming! A long long
dream.
[Elly looks up and turns to Fei, dropping her arms.]
ELLY
"It seems you resemble him. Someone important to her...
probably
the person who created her..."
FEI
"Huh...?"
[Fei stops for just a second.]
FEI
"H, hey you. My name is Fei. Not Kim."
[Emeralda stops for a second, looks down and folds her arms. And then she nods, looking back up.]
EMERALDA
Now I know, Fei's Kim!
Listen, listen, I was dreaming! A long
long dream!
[Fei puts his hands over his head and looks down. Then he looks up again.]
FEI
"... Kim is fine..."
[Citan turns to Fei.]
CITAN
"For her, 'Kim' means more than just a name.
... More like...
'father'."
[Fei turns to Citan.]
FEI
"... Father? ..."
[Citan shakes his head slowly.]
CITAN
"No, no, I mean it has general meaning."
[Fei looks down. Emeralda starts gesticulating with her arms again. Wait a few moments, and then camera pan and rotate in closer to Emeralda.]
EMERALDA
Listen, listen, Kim! I was dreaming about really old
times.
Kim was much older, and I was in some clear tube...
Kim was...
putting many candles on a white soft confection...
I didn't know why he was
doing that...
But I sensed he was looking forward to me coming out of the
tube...
[Emeralda looks down and shakes her head.]
EMERALDA
... But... soon everyone... was gone... My body
disappeared...
Then I was in somewhere dark for a long... long time...
[Emeralda looks up.]
EMERALDA
Please! Promise you'll stay, Fei's Kim!?
[Fei turns back to Emeralda.]
FEI
"Huh? ... Uh yeah."
[Fei nods.]
EMERALDA
Really?
Really truly?
[Elly turns to Emeralda.]
ELLY
"Really."
[Emeralda turns to Elly.]
EMERALDA
Don't bother me! Who is this old lady?
I'm talking to Kim!
ELLY
"Old lady...!
Maybe I should bury her back at the ocean
floor..."
[Fei turns to Elly.]
FEI
"Hey..."
[Elly turns to Fei.]
ELLY
"Why don't you be her Kim? The Fei... Kim!!"
[Elly turns around. Fei shakes his head and looks down. After a pause he looks up, and turns back to Emeralda.]
FEI
"Umm.. Oh...... By the way, do you have a name?"
[Emeralda turns back to Fei.]
EMERALDA
Oh no! You're cruel, Fei's Kim!
It's me, Emeralda, Emeralda!
Kim named me because I have emerald hair!
Don't you remember...?
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"Okay, okay. Emeralda, right?
Alright, Emeralda. I'll stay with you
this time. I promise!"
EMERALDA
"Really? Really truly? Yeah!"
[Emeralda jumps five times. A pause. Camera pan back and rotate to above and behind Fei close up. Citan turns to the side looking down with his fist on his chin.]
CITAN
"... I doubt Krelian acted on his own to use her as a disposable
soldier.
Some information existed in her which passed over to Krelian.
Who
knows what he will do next. We must find Solaris before that happens..."
NOTICE
Received a telegram from Shevat!
Due to a weakening gate, a city
that may be Solaris has been discovered!!
[Citan looks up and nods.]
CITAN
"Perfect!!
Let us go back to Shevat for now!"
[Scene fade.]
