Chapter 55: Promised Land

[Scene opens in the assembly hall in Nisan. Margie and Sister Agnes are tending to some severely mutated beings. Sister Agnes is moving about. Camera above and behind Margie on the side. Elly is on the top left part of the assembly hall, looking at another patient.]
ELLY*
When Fei and the others arrived at the deepest part of Mahanon, I
was looking after the newly mutating people in Nisan...
[Scene cut to the opposite side of the assembly hall. More people are suffering from large mutations. Agnes walks up to one of them and the patient turns to her.]
ELLY*
People mutating, one after the other...
[Scene cut to above the left side of the hall. Elly walks towards camera below it and turns back to the hall. She looks down and then turns to her left. Scene cut to the other side of the hall. Elly walks in below camera and walks to a circular window in the side of the hall.]
ELLY*
Like some eternal nightmare that made me wonder just how long we
would have to keep on nursing them.
[Margie walks up behind Elly.]
MARGIE
"Are you okay?"
[Elly turns around to Margie.]
MARGIE
"You haven't had any rest, have you?
I can handle things on my
own for a while. Why don't you go out for a walk?"
[Elly shakes her head.]
ELLY
"Thank you. But I'll be alright.
I'd rather keep busy so that I
won't worry about things too much."
MARGIE
"Is that it?"
[Margie stops.]
MARGIE
"Hey! Elly, what's that?"
[Elly looks down at herself, and then looks up at Margie.]
ELLY
"This?"
MARGIE
"Can I see it?"
[Margie walks up to Elly.]
MARGIE
"Just as I thought... It's the Pendant of Nisan.
But, why do you
have it, Elly?"
ELLY
"It's Fei's. I'm holding on to it for him... But...
It feels as if
I have always worn it..."
MARGIE
"Hmm..."
[Margie walks to the side and turns towards the window. Elly turns to Margie.]
MARGIE
"When you wear that, you look even more like Sophia!"
[Elly shakes her head slowly.]
ELLY
"Really? Hmm... Flattery won't get you anything, you know?
Anyway,
we need to hurry up and test the new mutation suppressant assembler on those
other people there.
We can't afford to have them change any further."
[Elly walks away from the window towards the lower floor. She stops at the edge of the level and looks down.]
ELLY
"Ah!"
[Scene cut to black. Pan up to reveal the pendant shimmering, swirling and glimmering brightly. It makes a high-pitched shrill sound and flies off to the upper right.]
[Begin music: "Ominous"]
[Scene fades back in on the assembly hall. Elly looks up.]
ELLY
"Oh-no... Something has happened to Fei and the others!"
[Scene cut to the back of the assembly hall. As Agnes deals with the mutating patients, Elly runs in from the side and out the door. Scene fade to white.]

[Begin music: "Shattering Egg of Dreams"]
[Scene fade in on the nebulous.]
ELLY*
Overcome by indescribable fear, I decided to ascend to Shevat, which
was stationed in the skies above Nisan.
Awaiting me there was a transmission
from Krelian...
He told me that if I wanted to save Fei and the others, I
would have to come to Golgoda.
Krelian wanted me.
In order to save Fei and
my other friends, I departed in the last Omnigear left remaining in
Shevat.
My previous fear of riding in this machine was surmounted by my
desire to rescue the people dear to me.
[Elly fades out of the chair. Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in on the nebulous without the chair. A still of the Shevat Omnigear, which resembles Vierge, is seen flying away from Shevat above Nisan. The Gear units of Elly's Solaris group are seen flanking her. On the nebulous, Elly fades in and walks towards camera in front of the still. Pan down towards her. She stops. Three members of her Solaris unit fade in behind her.]
RENK
"Are you serious about going it alone!?"
[Elly turns around to them and nods. Two more of her Solaris soldiers fade in.]
ELLY
"Krelian told me to come by myself."
[Elly shakes her head.]
ELLY
"I can't afford to break the agreement.
So please, stay behind and
protect everyone here."
HELMHOLZ
"But, it's a trap!"
[Elly folds her arms.]
ELLY
"I know."
STRATSKI
"Then why!?"
[Elly drops her arms and shakes her head.]
ELLY
"If I do not go, Fei and them will be executed for sure...
Krelian
isn't concerned with anyone else but me."
RENK
"So what makes you think he's going to hold his part of the
bargain?
Do you have any way of knowing that you will definitely save your
friends by doing this?"
[Elly puts her hands on her hips.]
ELLY
"No..."
[Elly straightens.]
VANCE
"Then it's suicide!"
[Elly turns away from everyone and folds her arms.]
ELLY
"It might be."
[Elly looks down. Then she looks up and puts her hands on her mouth.]
ELLY
"But, I've made it this far because of Fei and the
others...
Because they accepted me as their friend."
RENK
"If you go away... what about us...?
What about all the people who
have assembled in Nisan that you leave behind?
Everyone's depending on you
for their spiritual support."
[Elly drops her arms, turns back to the group and shakes her head.]
ELLY
"The people in Nisan will be fine.
They can stand on their own
feet without any support from me... This is also true of you all, right?"
[Elly looks at Broyer.]
BROYER
"But why do you do so much for him...?"
[Elly looks back.]
ELLY
"I don't know...
I guess it's a woman's prerogative to be
selfish... perhaps."
HELMHOLZ
"A woman's prerogative...?"
[Elly folds her arms.]
ELLY
"I'm not a holy woman of any sort. I'm just a regular woman.
I get
angry... I cry... I laugh...
Although at times I can resent others, I also
know how to love others.
Loving whole masses of people at times... and loving
just one person the rest of the time...
I am in supreme bliss when I am
embraced by the man that I love."
[Elly turns towards Broyer and Helmholz. She looks up and puts her hands on her mouth.]
ELLY
"Giving what I have to him, and receiving what he gives me, we become
one flesh...
That is the moment when I am most at peace."
[Elly straightens.]
ELLY
"It is my prerogative as a woman to simply want to save the man that
I love!"
VANCE
"Boss..."
[Elly shakes her head.]
ELLY
"I'm sorry... for saying such selfish things."
[Elly nods.]
ELLY
"I'll go and do all that I can do for my friends.
So I want you
all to do whatever it is you can do for our friends here."
RENK
"..."
ELLY
"Well, I had better get going now..."
[Scene fade. Stop music.]

[Begin music: "Omen"]
[Scene opens in the Golgoda plains. Elly's OmniGear faces a serpent-shaped Gear and Krelian's blue Gear. Camera behind Elly's Gear at a distance. Camera pan in close to the group.]
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in on some crucifixes above the group. Pan left slowly to reveal that a Gear is attached to each crucifix. Weltall-2, Fenrir, Renmazuo, and Giant Chu-Chu.]
[Scene cut to behind Giant Chu-Chu's crucifix at a distance and rotate and pan back to the left to behind Weltall-2's crucifix on the side.]
[Scene cut to a distance shot above the crucifixes with Renmazuo's Gear in the center. Pan up and to the left above the serpent Gear, Krelian's Gear and Elly's Omnigear at a far distance.]
[Scene fade/switch.]
[Scene fade in above Weltall-2's crucifix. Pan down to underneath Weltall-2 and rotate to look back up at it singlehandedly. Fade music. Scene fade.]
[Begin music: "The Ship of Regret and Sleep"]
[Scene fade in on the nebulous. A still of the faceoff in Golgoda is seen. Upon further note, underling Gears of Krelian's are guarding each of the crucifixes. On the nebulous, Fei and Citan stand in front of the still. Facing them in front is Krelian and an Executioner. Elly walks in slowly. She hesitates and walks up to the group. Camera behind Elly. Citan spreads his arms.]
CITAN
"Elly!?"
[Citan puts his hands down. Fei shakes his head and nods.]
FEI
"You idiot! Why did you come here!?"
[Fei shakes his head.]
FEI
"Krelian's after you! Forget about us! Run and save yourself!!"
[The Executioner turns to Elly. Rotate around to behind Elly on the side.]
ELLY
"I came as I was told. I'm the only one you need...
They have
nothing to do with this. So let Fei and the others go!"
[Krelian turns to Elly.]
KRELIAN
"How gallant you are, Elhaym.
It's as if 'that scene from the
past has been brought back to life in the present'.
So, you came in an
Omnigear. That too is... 'her Gear'.
Hmmm... Allow me to confirm
something."
[Krelian snaps his fingers. Two more Executioners fade in around Krelian! Elly backs up, and assumes a defensive stance. Krelian nods and folds his arms.]
KRELIAN
"I'll consider what kind of treatment your friends will receive...
on one condition.
... That you first defeat these two men here with that Gear
you came in... How about it, Elhaym?"
FEI
"Forget it, Elly! He's up to something! Don't accept it!"
[Citan extends his arms out to his sides again.]
CITAN
"Fei is right! Krelian is not a man of his word...
And he always
has ulterior motives when he sweet talks someone!
What is more, those men are
fighting machines created by Krelian.
Their combat skills are immeasurable!
They are not opponents you can handle by yourself!
Do not take him up on his
offer! Escape while you can!!"
[Citan straightens up. Krelian shakes his head.]
KRELIAN
"My my... Such harsh criticism. I am not that brutal.
So, what
will it be, Elhaym? Even if you were to try to flee now, it is not likely you
would be able to...
You see... I have this whole area surrounded by my
guards!"
[Krelian pauses.]
KRELIAN
"Wouldn't it be logical to take the choice where you may still
stand a chance...
... No matter how slight it may be?"
FEI
"Don't do it, Elly!"
ELLY
"Alright then... I'll do what you say."
[Krelian nods and folds his arms again.]
KRELIAN
"Good. You are indeed my precious little bird.
Now, get on with
it!"
[Scene fade to white.]
[----Battle mode----]
[Scene opens on the side of Elly's Omnigear.]
ELLY
"If it gives Fei and them even the slightest chance of
escape...
Then I will fight! I don't care if it even costs me my life!!"
[A huge green centipede-shaped Gear shows up in front of Elly's Gear. Pan and rotate to above Elly's Gear. The Gear makes a quick, deft move.]
ELLY
"They're too fast!!"
[Scene cut to behind Elly's Omnigear. Pan towards the strange centipede Gear. The Rattan (see Chapter 43) is also squared off against Elly. The green Gear fires an Ether shot at Elly. Continue pan and rotate to the side. Elly's Gear winces from the blow. The green Gear hits Elly's Gear with a huge blow of Ether force directly. It repeats the motion. Scene cut to in front of the Rattan. Pan back to behind Elly's Gear. The Rattan moves up to the Omnigear. It hits the Omnigear with its huge club. It jumps in the air and brings the club down on Elly's Gear again. Elly's Omnigear doubles over with its hands on its knees. The Rattan retreats to its original position. Scene cut to a distance shot from the front side of the green centipede Gear. Rotate and pan left to the side of Elly's Gear.]
ELLY
"Outmatched... Even in my Omnigear...
But... I can't just... No...
not like this..."
[Camera pan in close to Elly's Omnigear as it rises to normal position and draws its rod. Camera on the side of the head.]
ELLY
"I can't lose!!"
[Camera pan over to the Rattan. Elly's Gear moves to in front of it. Pan back as Elly's Gear hits the Rattan with a kick and a rod swipe. Pan up as the Gear retreats.]
ELLY
"M, must... somehow... stop... movement..."
[Camera pan over to the green centipede Gear as Elly moves her Gear in front of it. She hits it with a rod swipe and a high leg kick. She then hits it with a flurry of rod attacks, followed by another leg kick. Elly retreats to her original position. The Gear crumbles to the ground.]
ELLY
"Stopped!? Now's my chance! Haaaaaaaaaah!"
[Scene rotate around to behind the Rattan with the crucifixes of Golgoda in the far background behind Elly's Gear. Pan back a distance. Elly's Omnigear rises into the air. Camera pan back in quickly as it raises its rod. The Gear calls forth a strong Earth Ether attack on the two massive Gears. Elly's Gear lands on the ground again. The Rattan falls over. Scene cut to the side of the two Gears and rotate left over to Elly's Gear.]
ELLY
"Did I do it!?"
[A long pause.]
[The centipede Gear and the Rattan get back to their feet! Pan in closer to Elly's Omnigear in front of the head.]
ELLY
"H, how could that...!? I thought it had some sort of effect..."
[Scene cut to the side of the centipede Gear close up.]
CENTIPEDE GEAR
"Girl, that hurt! I'll get you back!!"
RATTAN
"It was wrong of you to underestimate our power!"
[Camera pan left and rotate to behind Elly's Omnigear close up. The centipede Gear charges up to Elly's Gear. The Rattan follows suit. The centipede Gear strikes Elly's Gear. The Rattan follows, clubbing Elly's Gear. The centipede Gear uses a head butt and hits Elly's Gear in the midsection twice. The Rattan jumps up and brings its club down on the Omnigear. The centipede Gear hits the Omnigear with a flurry of leg kicks. The Rattan clubs the Gear. The centipede Gear hits Elly's Omnigear in the midsection with its head again twice. The Rattan does its jump club again. Elly's Omnigear falls on its back. Scene cut to above Elly's Omnigear.]
ELLY
"Gaah..."
[Rotate around Elly's Omnigear to the left side below the leg. The Omnigear gets up! But it immediately puts its hands on its knees. Elly is wincing in pain.]
ELLY
"Guh...! ... Huff... Huff..."
RATTAN
"Hmm, I'm getting no results. It can't be helped, Mugwort.
It's
about time to finish the job."
[Camera rotate in and behind Elly's Omnigear as it stands on its feet just as the two Gears begin their attack again. The centipede Gear hits Elly twice with a claw and then performs an uppercut jab. It then proceeds to hit the Omnigear over the head. It then performs a mutiple leg kick combo attack. The Rattan charges up to the Gear. It hits Elly's Gear with the club and its huge left arm together and then performs its jump club attack. It then rears back and uses a head butt. Elly's Gear falls over on its back again. Scene cut to directly above Elly's fallen Omnigear. Pan back a short distance away and rotate to the left slightly. A long pause.]
MUGWORT
"Gahahahah! Downed yet!?"
RATTAN
"It's to be expected. Multiple fractures, major blood loss...
I
wouldn't be surprised if the cockpit is a sea of blood."
MUGWORT
"At worst, death! Gah hah hah hah!!"
[A pause. Stop music. Elly's Omnigear gets back to its feet with its rod drawn, again!! Pan in closer to under the Omnigear's head.]
RATTAN
"What the...!? There's no way you could stand after taking that
much damage..."
[Scene cut to in front of the centipede Gear on the side. An Ether blast is seen and the centipede Gear disintegrates.]
RATTAN
"M, Mugwort!!?"
[Camera pan to the left and rotate into the Rattan which is now moving furiously with rage.]
RATTAN
"Why you! How dare you do that to my partner!"
[Scene cut to behind Elly's Omnigear on the side. The Gear moves up to the Rattan and hits it with a combo involving seven head butts. It returns to its original position. A bright greenish light engulfs the scene and Elly's Omnigear shoots a high concentrated blue ether Beam into Rattan. Scene cut to behind the Rattan as Elly's Gear finishes the shot. The scene becomes bright with more Ether energy, giving off another greenish tint. Elly's Gear fires the beam again. Scene returns to normal again as the shot is released. Scene cut to behind Elly's Omnigear, opposite side. The scene fades to green light again. Elly's Gear fires the shot again, and the scene returns to normal. The Rattan falls backwards and distintegrates. Elly's Gear stops the firing motion. The Gear kneels and a uncontrolled power down sound is heard. Pan in to Elly's Gear and rotate to in front of the chest. Pan back and away from the head. Scene fade.]
[----End battle mode----]
[Scene fade to white. Scene fade.]
[Begin music: "Omen"]
[Scene fade in on the nebulous without the chair. In the far background, a still of Elly's Omnigear kneeling is seen. Elly lies on her back underneath it on the nebulous, unconscious. Fei and Citan fade in on the nebulous in the foreground, kneeling, facing away from camera.]
FEI
"No way...! Elly...!"
[Camera rotate and pan to the left slightly to behind Fei as Krelian and the Executioner fade in, facing Elly's body.]
KRELIAN
"Her true awakening...? Or just merely... 'protecting her
master'...?
Either way, it does not alter the fact that she is the -Mother-
existence that I have been searching for!"
[Krelian pauses.]
KRELIAN
"Now, men... recover that machine.
Place priority on the safety
of the pilot. Use whatever it takes to preserve her life!"
[Elly fades out. The Executioner and Krelian turn to Fei and Citan. Krelian nods.]
KRELIAN
"Well then, I shall be taking this girl with me! As for the rest
of you...
Why don't you just wallow there pathetically while you meditate on
your own lack of any real power."
[Krelian laughs. The Executioner and Krelian fade from sight. The still is turned off. Grahf fades in on the nebulous in front of Fei. Grahf kneels in front of Fei.]
GRAHF
"Pitiful..."
[Grahf pauses.]
GRAHF
"You can't even protect a single woman.
It is not even worth the
effort of putting a spineless wretch like you out of your misery!"
[Grahf stands up and fades out.]
[Scene fade.]
[Scene fade in on the nebulous, normal. The chair is back.]
FEI*
Elly was taken away... And, as Krelian had told her, we were left
alive...
Was Krelian just keeping his promise... No, that can't be
it...
There had to be another 'real' reason why he allowed us to live...
[Darken scene.]
FEI*
And we had to find that out...
[Scene fade. Stop music.]
